I am thinking about putting a shelf in the corner over my shower stall. I have enough room (about 3 feet) and would like to put a plant there. Anyone have an suggestions?
The area gets good diffused natural light all day (east and north facing windows with translucent blinds on them) and some artificial light at night. Very humid area. Wouldn't mind something trailing if it (the leaves anyway) didn't mind getting wet daily and pinched back regularly.
I thought about a pothos or heart leave philodendron. Also thought about a prayer plant.
anxiously awaiting your ideas...
Orchids! What a perfect place for 'em....
How about a fern? Just watched a program on HGTV all about ferns and some of them were lovely - they definitely would love the humidity!
How about Tillandsias? They don't even need pots or soil!

pray tell what is a Tillandsias?
Jiffymouse,
Assessing light can be tricky. I am concerned that you may have less available light than you realize.
Plants that are placed high and close to the ceiling get less light than those that are at eye level or below. North and east windows get little direct light at all, even when uncovered. Even translucent blinds filter out quite a bit of light. Finally, I assume your plant would be at least several feet away from the windows. All of these factors, if my assumptions are correct, reduce the available light. In that case, your options are restricted to low light plants such as pothos and Philodendron.
Light is far more important to a plant than humidity.
Tilandsias are sometimes called "air" plants because they need no soil. They're parasitic & will grow on moist tree bark. I have some sticking in a hunk of driftwood on the edge of a fountain. They just need a spritz of water every day or so..I should think they'd be happy campers in a shower with the humidity and all. Anyone out there have a link to Tilandsias???
