2 Cups Milk
1/2 Cup water
5-6 cups flour (I use exactly 6)
2 packages yeast
1 Tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda (I use 1/2 cuz it makes the bread airier)
Cornmeal
Warm milk and water. (very warm about 120 degrees)
Place 4 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda in bowl and mix. Add warm liquid to mixture. Add remaining flour mixing until thoroughly combines. Dough will be VERY sticky.
Spread dough in loaf pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes.
This bread really freezes well if you make enough to last that long.
Thank you so for this recipe, Triss ~
I can't wait to make a few loaves as gifts for this Season!

Sorry about that Loz, my editing skills aren't nearly as good as the cooking ones.
Glad everyone liked the bread Merme.
Triss, I just thought it was funny actually because I sat here trying to figure out where I could get slat and what it was.....
lol @ loz. I love it that sounds so much like me. This does look good I may have to try it myself. And I'm not much for making yeast breads.
Thankyou for posting it Triss.
Could you imgine going to the store and asking for the slat. "please Mr Grocer, I have to have it for that recipe"
I tried to edit the post but could not. I guess too much time has past. Sorry.
Well, maybe I am REALLY dense, but what IS slat?? I would like to try this recipe too!!
Thanks! Bonnie
Oh DUH!! Never mind--salt!! Thanks!! Bonnie
Just came to me after sending!
Bill or a hostess... Is there any way that can be edited as to not confuse anyone else?

I can't imagine anyone here ever being confused
but I edited the recipe anyway....
Thank you so much Bill. There is good confusion and bad confusion. This one was not good.
It was quite funny Becky! Hope you enjoy the bread, my kids LOVE it!!!!
I'll let you know when I get a chance to make it!
Does Thomas (the english muffin maker) put out some of this too?
Ya know Becky, the only thing that I think is English Muffiny about the bread is the texture. made two loaves tonight and one is half gone already. I really need to start making 4 at a time.
thats recipe sounds really good, i may have to try that one...
Triss ~
I gave away 11 loaves of this to families in our parish within the past two weeks, and kept one loaf for me 'n Maxi.
RAVE reviews all the way around, for the second time!
Thanks again.
