The Pinesap is a perennial wildflower that is native to conifer forests in the coastal regions from SE Alaska to Northern California. (Different varieties exist throughout the world as well) It is incapable of photosynthesis and therefore must derive its nutrition by attaching its roots to the fungal growth on the roots of conifers.
It is related to the Indian Pipe (Monotropa uniflora).
