Kind of like when summer is finally here, the stores have winter jackets out.

I was in Lowes yesterday to get some grow lights and their garden center had plants for sale - like hydrangeas, pussy willow trees, roses, you know ~ roots. Why so early? Are the prices better to get them now? Just store them in a cool dry place like where my canna's and gladiolas are stored over winter?

Just was getting in the spring fever, then we finally got show this winter! 6 inches this past weekend, and right now we are right smack in the middle of a line of storms coming our way in about 2 hours, to last through Friday, with up to 12 to 18 inches of snow expected!

Think I will go in the furnace room where my grow lights are growing seedlings and sit under the lights for a while.

I think they just want to get the jump on all the other stores. So far, all I've really seen here are the packaged bulbs, seeds, roses and some of the bareroot plants, but it seems like they are putting them out a lot earlier each year. eek I figure why should I buy some of the things now if I just have to care for them until I can put them out. Duh I'd rather wait until I'm ready to put them out and have a better idea of where I'm going to place them. wink

Mrs. Bradley - I love your tinkerbell!

So you got a rose - root I'm guessing. So just storing it until spring? Couldn't resist when you saw it?

I've always wanted pussy willow tree, think I might pick up one next time I'm in town.

Expecting 12 inches of snow here the next 3 days! My son is getting out of school right now, early, it's starting! Duh-isn't tomorrow MARCH? smile

Oh yah - nother question, the bulbs they have at the stores right now and in catelogs, spring bulbs. I've never planted spring bulbs before - I thought all bulbs were planted in the fall because they needed that cold period????

Yeah,Patty. I cannot resist roses, and can't wait to start buying as soon as I see them in the stores.

this one is a deep purple long stemmed one called...purple passion. it's supposed to get up to 5 feet tall.WOW! gonna be beautiful.I am just keeping it in the bag it came in (bare root) outside in the elements and it continues to grow new leaves. can't wait to see the flowers clp

I won't be gettin any pretty trees til we own our own place.for now, most of my roses go into pots,my absolute favorites that i cannot stand to leave behind.

BTW: with my tinkerbell....art imitating life!!LOL

I think the most we'll find here in southern Ontario will be the usual bulbs - some lilies, gearing up for Easter and seed packs, of course.

Well, the Lowe's and Wal-Mart here seem to be adding a little more each day. clp smile clp Home Depot is a little farther in a totally different direction so I haven't been out there in weeks. frown I might try to put that on my agenda for the coming week. smile smile wink

Thorny, I saw those Lantern-type feeder at Wal-Mart the other day and they are a wonderful buy for the money. thumbup Of course, they were 98 cents here because they are building a new Super Wal-Mart across from the college so I guess we're paying for that store little by little. frown laugh I used to buy those latern-type feeders so when the squirrels would tear them up I wasn't out that much money. wink Plus, for what they cost you can replace them every year or two. Besides, the little birds seem to love them and the bigger birds don't seem to bother them. wink wink

Man it's not fair! You guys can get everything (by that I mean those glads) so cheap, it costs about a dollar a bulb here, actually $10 for a bag of 12. The only seeds at the dolalr store are 3/$1 I guess not too bad

Gotta start saving my allowence for a rose bush! I get $5 a week, and I am almost done saving for a $30 Jiffy seed starting warming mat
Posted By: tkhooper Re: In the stores already? - March 4th, 2007 at 02:53 PM
Congratulations on the saving. You are doing great. Those warming pads look like a fantastic deal. I'm sure it will be a great investment.

Here the rose bushes aren't that expensive so I'm sure you will do well with those as well.

I haven't been out to the store all winter so I have no idea what they have gotten in yet. But it sure sounds like it's time to go to the dollar store.
