Has anybody tried these?

I was given 3 of these yesterday. They are like hotcaps, but you fill the pockets with water and they are supposed to keep your plants warm.

I've heard good things about them. Obywan has them.

I've heard good things too..

The only two negative things I heard
was....
#1. They were heavy to move, so make sure
they were where you wanted them before you completely fill them..
#2. They got a bit dirty from dirt splashing on them...

Thanks for the input! I saw those in one of my catalogs and was wondering if they were any good. I thought it might be worth trying because of our "iify" weather conditions. I think everyone around here gets a little over-anxious when it starts to warm up. Of course, I'm probably guilty of that too, so this may be an option.

You know, if you can't afford those things..
Fill up about 6 *or more* plastic milk jugs
with water.. and get yourself one of those
36qt *or larger* Sterlite Containers and cover plants..

The jugs are the same effect with warming up
with the day's sunshine.. and the sterlite container is like the greenhouse effect with
the w'ow's closing in effect...

I'd love to hear your test results on the WOW's..
*and maybe even if you did the above idea,
and see which one is easiest, cheapest, etc..*

Well I planted Squash and Zucchini today and set up the Wall O' Waters, we will see how they do.

I got them from my FIL, he used them last year and didn't like them. His plants got spindly.

I will keep you informed of the results.

Wow! Thanks, Weezie! I already like this idea! It sounds really easy and it certainly would be much cheaper. I was looking at the Red Tomato Teepees and they were $14.95 for three of them, so this could end up getting pretty costly. Besides, if I wasn't pleased with the results I would have another nice container for a worm bin.

Most places sell these 3 for around $10.

What kind of places? I haven't seen anything like that at any of the nurseries around here. The ones I saw were from Gardners Supply and would require shipping charges too!

Of course, I still really like Weezie's idea, but I would like to see what these look like in person. :rolleyes:

I found the easiest way to do it is to place a 5 gal bucket upside down over the plants and fill the tubes, one on one side and then one on the other side, until they are about 2/3 or so full.

I didn't level the ground underneath first, but it would be a lot better if I did.

It is supposed to get 28* tonight.

looks like a good idea, but a bit pricy 3 for 10bucks! and thats a nice size garden ya got there
