Okay - I'm searching for the magic sheet on when to start my seeds indoors on lots of different types of seeds. Is there a magic sheet with LOTS of facts on time tables for different types of flowers? I see the sheet from Bill on seed starting. Good info. I need more. I know that most of the seeds will have the info on the package, but I have lots that were given to me or this or that and don't have all the information.

Days to germinate I understand, but is there a 'rule of thumb' or something about how long after germination the plant will be ready to go outside, so I can figure out when to start the seeds indoors?

Almost all seeds are started 8-6 weeks before your set out date, of course there are a few that take longer and some that take less time, but in general 6-8 weeks is sufficient amount of time between germination and planting outdoors. I usually start any flowers & herbs I want to plant after I have sprouted my tomatoes and peppers, if that helps.

Is there some sort of list of what seeds need to be soaked, knicked, scratched? I thought I read that somewhere here before.

Tammy/tkhooper collected a bunch of info last year about that, but not sure where it may be posted. Best thing to do is if you have a question about a certain one, is to post asking. Tammy did that and it was interesting reading the threads...So might search the forum for anything you are wondering about first and see if someone else hasn't already answered about it. The only flowers I know off hand are Echinacea & columbine need cold before germination and hyacinth beans need to be nicked. But I am sure there are alot of others.

It also has the special requirements for the seeds, such as do they need light or darkness to germinate, do they need scarification or statication to germinate and all the rest of it. If nothing is stated then the default applies. It is very hard to read I admit. But it's either this or look each one up as you go.

I do have a list of plants with propagation information but they may not be the ones you are looking for. They should be in the archives in the garden chat room.

I've started up some seeds from deadheads I collected - I figure on putting the pots outside in mid-April - so that'll be 8 weeks.
