I just found out a few seconds ago that I am pregnant with my second child. My first is almost 7 yrs old!! Any ideas on how to tell my husband??
Should I wait to tell my daughter or should we tell her right away? I'm freaking out!!!!

As for telling your daughter...talk to your husband and see what he says...but let him get over the shock first

Depends on if you were "trying" or not- I would just sit him down and say guess what!
As for telling your little one- I always waited till I showed- it's a long wait for them..My kids are 4 yrs and 7 yrs apart so I know what it's like- only one in diapers at a time - keeping you awake-- worked for me...

hey, you could do something silly, like serve his iced tea in a baby bottle tonight, he might catch on real quick! Or decorate the house in baby stuff, something eyecatching like that?!? I would have too much fun with this one! We are "trying" to have another also. I am so happy for you!

I'd probably buy some diapers and hand them to him and say, you might want to brush up on your diapering skills!

It took us exactly a year to conceive. I had just about given up hope!! I am really against fertility things so I was hoping that it would happen and be "meant to be" if that makes sense.

My daughter is going to be very excited and it will be hard not to tell her what is going on- she's pretty sharp and we're not too good at keeping secrets!!

My in-laws are going to freak out too! They are in their 60s and this will be their first biological grandchild.

Good luck with telling hubby. If you were trying, then its not one of those "oh ****!" moments like ours was. I've always gone out and bought a cute onesie in a neutral color and wrapped it up and left it on the bed for him to find. As for telling daughter...maybe you wanna wait until after those initial 12 weeks are over just to be safe. It would really suck to go through telling your daughter and then something happens and you have to explain that part to. Just a thought....my husbands mother went through that when he was younger.

So when is your due date??? Sometime in December I'm thinking.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I am so happy for you! I would (nonchalantly) ask him if he liked the name"------" and when he asked why say "Well we might want to figure out what we want to name our new addition."

i would tell the hubby right away - even if it's just one of the home-test things...

and, better get yourself an appt at the ob-gyn right away!!

* get a party banner that says suprise
* make a cake, decorate in baby motifs
* leave an opened home pregnancy test box on the table
* get parents magazine or baby magazine & leave it on a table
* get paint colors and catalogs of baby room decor, leave out
....

What great news! I think your daughter will be excited. Most little girls that age love to help with a new baby. And granny and gramps might be excited too. Most of us really enjoy our grandkids--we get to spoil them rotten and send them home to mom and dad

He called and I *HAD* to tell him! He's a teacher and he was getting ready to start teaching. I think I really shocked him because he said, I have to step out into the hall and breathe. I will have to call you back- I have kids coming in! LOL

He was calling to see if I had gone to the dr because I've been so tired lately. I just said, I think I have to go to a different dr than we thought!!! He said, WHYYYY?? I said, cause we're having a baby!!!

I called my best friend and told her right after my hubby. She swears she knew it already from the way I've been acting.

I'm sure the grandparents will be thrilled.

Still kind of in shock here, but now everyone knows except MY parents! I will tell them later today probably. It is my husband's first time going through this (my daughter is from my first marriage)
and he was anxious to spread the news, so I let him! Everyone was floored and VERY excited- no one had any idea we had even discussed having another, so it was fun to hear their squeals of delight over the phone!

I have an appt for Tuesday and will keep you all up to date!

congrats 'manda. i had something similar when i got pregnant with my second. and he knew right away, and we were going to wait longer than we did, but i got pregnant reeaal easy. my daughter was 5 when kate was born.

Girl would be easiest I think since I already have one! My daughter would be happier too, I think-- poor thing has been surrounded by boys ever since birth (all our neighbors and her cousin are all boys!)
However, I'll give the typical answer of "as long as it's healthy...."

A friend asked me that question yesterday and I said, "Oh my gosh! I forgot it could be either one!!" She died laughing. That just goes to show how "out of it" and in shock I really am!

Manda, I am so happy for you. Reading all of this, I have tears of joy running down my face. Babies are an amazing blessing, be it a boy or girl, he or she will change your lives in amazing ways you cannot even imagine, each child does and no matter hwo many you have, each one changes it once again.

As for your daughter, I would not be able to help but tell. For girls especially, knowing a baby is coming is the most exciting thing you can imagine.

Had a little scare last night that ended me up in the ER- I'll leave out the details, but it involves some cramping and pain. I was there from 10pm to 3am and was NOT fun being poked and prodded and paraded around the waiting room in a backless gown holding a cup of my own urine! Okay, that might be too many details already!
I am 6 weeks exactly today, which means I'm due on Nov 13, give or take a couple of weeks like always. I met with my CNM (nurse-midwife) today and all is well.
We did end up telling my daughter the same day I found out and she is OVER THE MOON! She's wanting twins or more! She has dragged out her Dr's kit and all of her baby dolls to "practice" LOL

Thank you all for your wonderful friendship! I will keep you up-to-date as things go! I'm on partial bedrest, so I can't frequent the boards as often as I want to, but I'll pop in as often as I can!

Manda, sorry about the scare. It is terrifying to have to go through all of that, I remember being in that situation and just not knowing what was going on and wanting to be home. I hope the cramping and bleeding stop and that all will be ok with you and the lil one from here on out. Check in when you can and know we are praying for you both.
