Spring must be near - I'm starting to get interested again.

I didn't pine for the garden this year - not like the past three. I wasn't out there on the lot, putzing around when we had mild days . . . didn't even fuss a whole lot with the stuff I had indoors.

But . . . these past few days I have been ambling into the office, carrying pots back to the sink here in the apartment.

Today, for instance - I intend to take one of the pots of 'I don't know what' from the window sill -something that disappeared back into the soil all on its own - and try to revive it. Here's my plan . . .

The last three days worth of tea bags are sitting in a bowl on the nuker - instead of letting them mold, in the hopes that some mad scientist will want them for lab research, I'm going to use them.

So . . . my intention:

To remove the top layer of soil from that 'whateveritis', inspect the rest of it and grasp whatever root is there;

To re-pot the soil, after having lovingly tossled it a bit with my two bare hands, then sprinkling two bags of tea over that;

To replace the said top layer, then cover with remaining soil;

To water, then place it under the florescent lamp on the desk;

To keep it moist until I see something green.

Tamara - nice to see you; how are things in NB - still winter, I guess.

The west coast got blasted worse this year, eh?

No - we didn't do any yard sales - Jeff probably will in spring. I do them 'after' the sales are over - I go looking through the discard boxes - and I'm usually very successful with that - books, books and more books, not to mention kids' dinosaurs for my garden - ha ha!

Fall gardening . . . hmmmm . . . actually, having made mulch with a lot of leaves, we managed the cleanup on our own - the owner's family were willing to come down, but we didn't really need them.

Here's October gardening:

How's things up your way, Penny - got a lotta' snow? Any pictures up on your bucket?

Hi Carly....we do have LOTS of the white stuff up here, i am having trouble with my camera not loading pics for me,,,i have lots taken just cant load them.
I'll let you know if i can.
Hey....are you going to the Home and Garden show this year???
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 11th, 2007 at 11:14 AM
I was thinking about it - coincidentally, I was thinking about it just 15 minutes ago. I went to bed early last night - as a result I woke up around 4:30 - ha ha! So I've been up puttering around.

And I was looking at the Canadian Gardening newsletter - that's what made me think about the gardening show.

Jeff might wanna' go - we went two years ago - I had to miss the 2k6 show 'cause I went out west.

You might wanna' check the batteries in your camera - even if you're plugged into the computer, it won't upload the pics if your batteries are low.

If all fails, you could always take your memory card out of the camera and into a photo shop - they could get the jpegs off it.

I put some seeds in two pots this morning - just the crumbles from my deadheading - hope there's seeds in it - ha ha!

Some lavender and some marigold seed (I think that's what it is).

I have little caps for the pots - I might just put them under the flurorescent lamp with the pot I did yesterday.

Once again, I seem to be losing my dark coleus growth - another girl here in the building raises it too - she got her original stuff from me.

The guy above her (that's the guy that brings all the plants home from work), has some that she gave him - his is ok - so this year, it looks like we'll be getting the cuttings from his plant.

I had three pots of it - it was doing ok through the late fall and winter - had it up against the north wall in the office. Got enough light - then it started to straggle - well I cut off the few stalks, spindly ones at that, and put the pots themselves in bags to let 'em sleep a while.

I'm hoping to be able to get some growth out of those pots by putting them out when it's warm and giving them a good dose of miracle grow.

As for the small clippings? I have a strawberry pot that was given to me last fall. I just might put them in there.

That's a lotta' thinking I've been doing on this early Sunday morn' . . . plus I have a brainstorm. Every apartment on the south-west side has a kitchen window that faces south - I'm thinking of getting some of the dwellers from that stack to temporarily adopt some of my seed experiments. I'll just ask them to keep a couple of pots on that window sill and keep them moist, then give 'em back at the beginning of May.

Oh, the rusty wheels are crankin' around in my head this morning.

C'mon February Thaw - let's go!
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 11th, 2007 at 01:50 PM
OK - so that's 4 pots all told - # 4 is actually a couple of jade leaves on top.

1) big pot in office with Idunno' on the top;
2) small pot with lavender pickings;
3) small pot with what looks like marigold;
4) the jade

There will be more today - I've told Jeff to get me the 'green box' from the garbage room - that has some seeds in it. Some 'pickings' anyway.

OK - that's it for today - did a few more pots -gotta' leave something to make the rest of the month interestin'.

Carly, we have hardly any snow, only about 3 ft. Lot's of cold though. Supposed to storm Thursday and Friday though.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 11th, 2007 at 09:28 PM
Yep - I saw that on the weather network - you guys are getting stormy weather.

We're having a few nice days but it's supposed to chill up again come Tuesday.

Let me know Carly if you decide to go this year.......as far as i know, I'm coming down again too.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 13th, 2007 at 02:40 PM
Well, we'll see what happens - remind me a couple days before.

We're getting a snowstorm today - a lotta' snow - 10 to 15 cm, they say - we'll just have to see.

It's pretty cold right now.
Posted By: penny in ontario Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 13th, 2007 at 02:42 PM
Sounds good Carly.

We are supposed to get a bit of the storm, or so they say.
I was in Toronto yesturday and was surprised at how little snow is there, i was by the airport and there was none, i felt over dressed in my winter coat and scarf, gloves, and boots.
Stay safe too!!!
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 13th, 2007 at 10:09 PM
Most of what snow we do have is just crust now.

And as of right now? 5:08 pm? We don't have this snowstorm.

Maybe early evening? I do know my bones are achin' - maybe that's a sign.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 13th, 2007 at 10:10 PM
I did two things this morning:

1) transplanted my potato vine into the strawberry pot;

2) crumbled some deadheads I picked at Etienne Park last August into a pot - put it in the window.

So . . .

And it's here! The snow! It's been falling in the night and there was around 2 inches of it on the parking lot early this morning - I looked out front and there's a lot more in the yard and on the walks.

It looks gorgeous! I feel guilty saying that, 'cause I know Jeff will be cursing it - he's the one that has to keep the walks cleared!

And the snow plow? Hmmmph . . . that contractor doesn't seem to be paying much attention to us this year.

There'll be more, I know - more snow just started falling.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 14th, 2007 at 12:28 PM
I just turned the fluorescent lamp on my few pots for the day.

That potato vine I transplanted into the strawberry pot is limping a bit, but 'spect it will pick up.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 14th, 2007 at 02:39 PM
The potato vine is the least of our worries today - hoo boy! That's real snow out there!

I (yes - me!) was out there helping Jeff - managed to clear a path down one walk anyway - just walked down with the shovel and made a foot wide space just so we could ACCESS the bloody walk!

The snow plow did arrive and got the driveway and parking lot a bit clearer.

Glad to hear your doing good and shovelling out Carly....more snow up here but nothing like what they said.....not yet anyway.
Stay warm!!!
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - February 15th, 2007 at 10:52 AM
I think we've seen the last of it - there's a lot, but the weather network said no accumulation for the next 24 - and that was last night.

The weekend is supposed to be warmer, and the week to come - we'll have to see about that.

Guess we'll just go into the February thaw. We went out for dinner last night - valentines dinner at the chinese buffet - the roads were already a bit slushy on the sides.

I've been working on a few pots a day.

I really love this thing but I don't know exactly what it is.

Two Pots With Something Peeking

[Linked Image]

One is marigolds or some orange flowered thing's deadheads - planted Feb 11th.

The other (in flowered pot) are some jade bits - planted Feb 11th.

Something I Clipped With My Nails - Re-Potted today Feb 18th

A little bit of stuff I pinched.

-------------

Wild Violet in Schleffera Pot - Planted today - Feb 18th

[Linked Image]

That's one half of the BV seeds - it's in the schleffera that started dying. I don't know what it's going to do - it got treated with my tobacco juice and cut right back. I have it's pieces sitting in water, hoping something will sprout from them.

Got another box of plants - this time they're varied - there are 4 white geraniums! Six african violets! Some 'forget-me-not' . . . I think that's what they are and some primrose too.

A hyacinth as well - don't know how he got them varied like that - maybe he went round to everybody's desk in the bank's head office and collected the plants.

Ha ha!

Ahhhhhh! Those white flowered plants - I just brought one in to soak it in some water - there' a tag - it's not a geranium - it's a primrose.
Posted By: Carly Re: OK - so I'm interested . . . - March 16th, 2007 at 04:05 PM
And they've finished blooming.

They just looked messy so I cut them back, watered 'em again and put them on the shelf.

Everything got a dose of MG today - nothing now till 2 weeks.

I've made room for any more plants that are brought to me - there will probably be another box of discards from the bank soon.

I 'could' be puttering around outside today - it's not that cold - high of minus 2 celsius.

I 'could' be out there, breaking up some small bits of ice, maybe picking debris out of some spots, but I'm just toooooooooooo lazy!

Slept most of yesterday - gee, I've had some good naps this winter - it's truly been a hibernation for me.

I might and I might not take some pictures of winter progress indoors - if not later today, maybe tomorrow.

I wish my seeds would come up faster - I wanna' see them . . . grrrrrr!

You've certainly got a green thumb. thumbup

It's always nice to see them on the grow, eh?

Well, I officially started outdoors yesterday - cleaned a bit of the rock garden.

I'm just going to do a bit each day till it warms up even more, then I'll be on the move again.
