Just wondering if anyone else decorates cakes. It is a hobby that I enjoy.

Here is a picture of a cake I made for a cake show, everything you see except for the bugle handle is edible.

Very nice Work! I don't decorate cakes myself, but my wife used to. I do however knit and crochet, do cross stitch, bead, weave, braid, embroider, and flintknap. In the Army I learned Lapidary and silver and gold work including casting. I learned to facet and how to make cabochons. I am retired and like to stay constantly busy.

Thorn, you sure know how to do a lot of thing...when will you pass us all your knowledge!?

Janell, My dad used to be a pastry chef at a hotel (I think it was the royal your hotel in downtown Toronto). Not sure if he exactly decorated cakes like you did, but he did make those little cakes that you'd see at a buffet. He did decorate my birthday cakes and they did look pretty good! He spent a lot of his time 'carving' chocolate and almond paste to make those little ediable figurines that you'd put on thhe top of you cake.
