We really do not decorate much, as it's more a celebration of the holiday with family and friends. Plus... even if we wanted to, there aren't a whole lot of decorations for sale - again, because that's not really what it's all about. But I had to have this flag (loz - you would be so proud of me - got it a few years ago at 75% off!!! laugh )

When the kids were much younger, I actually found these forms in a craft store - the Jewish Star of David. So I got some blue and white glass gems (the colors of Israel), and they glued them on - there are 2 - one for each side of the front door.

We light the menorah candles at sundown for 8 nights.

These menorahs were painted by Brian and Amy in Hebrew school years ago - they are very special to me.
I always like to have each kid light there own, so they feel involved.

Look at the beautiful salad Charlie made for us!!!
It was huge - on a turkey platter!

And last, but not least...
the YUMMMMMMY potato latkes (pancakes) that Don made.
My grandmother (on mom's side) had the original recipe,
and when she could no longer make them my father took over, and now Don.

Very nice, Lynne!! I have had latkes before and they were scrumptious!! cool I think Chanukah is a more family oriented holiday and has kept it's true meaning better than others. Looks like you guys had good food and good times! kissies

I agree. I am really disappointed in how commercial Christmas is...it's all about Santa Claus and presents. If you ask a kid what Christmas is, they usually say it's when Santa Claus comes.

That salad looks awesome thumbup ...now I'm craving salad. eek

Oh Lynne ~ thanks so much for sharing this celebration with us!

Merme *green with envy*

The flag is beautiful and I really like what you did with the Star of David for each side of your door. That was clever of you!

I have always appreciated thinking about how millions of Jewish people all the world over carry out honoring this tradition as memorial to such a special event in history. That faithfulness inspires me....

The world might be engulfed in war or other disasters and yet somewhere on the planet there are Jews lighting a menorah and hopefully eating latkes, holding fast to the beautiful, holy things that make life worth living.

I will admit also that my son was annoyed with me because I didn't make latkes last night! Sorry, Maxi. He's still hoping for some soon.

Lynne, thank you for sharing the pics, it surely reminds me of my friend I have discussed with you, and thank you for bringing back wonderful memories.
