Ok, originally this spanned with a conversation I had with the Hubby, he didn't answer it to my satisfaction. Course maybe that's because I was making him do laundry.... Anyway, I'm always interested in Myths, Legends and whatnot and I was watching Van Helsing the other night. Does anyone know what the real background is on Van Helsing??? I don't mean to make this long winded but I'm curious and I found some stuff out there on the WWW but it just confused me more referencing Comic books I'll probably never read. Help!

The movie, "Van Helsing" is loosely based on author Bram Stoker's "Dracula," published in 1897. Bram Stoker (1847-1912), in turn, based his title character on Vald Tepes or Vald the Impaler (1431-1476), a ruler of Transylvania. He got his nickname for his favorite way of dispensing with his enemies.

Abraham Van Helsing is the vampire hunter from "Dracula." He is fictional.

Michele

I knew that about Vlad but I had like no clue about Van Helsing and I didn't think the movie stuck to the comics from what I had read so far. Thanks!

All I know about Van Helsing is that's the name of the doctor in Dracula. Funny little thing: in the book, he has to perform a blood transfusion, and Bram Stoker talks about drawing blood from one and putting it directly into another. Today we know it can't really happen like that!
