My mom just bought a stainless steel frying pan from Target because she's been reading that Teflon pans are not healthy. Well, with the information that came with her new pan was some info that if you have pet birds, you shouldn't have them around when using teflon utensils as the pans give off something that's harmful to them. I'm not sure exactly what it is and why it's harmful, but I'll ask my mom if there is anything more specific.

Terry, I belive Miss Cinja is pretty well versed on the effects of teflon and birds, she mentioned it a few CH's ago.I'm sure she'd give you some info on it if you need it...That is why she's known as the Bird Lady..among many other interesting things laugh  wink

I'm not surprised that Cindy knows, she was way on top of the full-spectrum light topic.

My mom's been bugging me about my teflon pans. I guess I should toss 'em out. I have cast iron pans that I like, but I like the omelet style pans also. Does anybody know if they make them in cast iron?

I hate cooking with stainless steel and only use non-stick. Even with all the warnings.

Terry, I'd try googling cast iron omelet pan and see what you come up with, or maybe even try froogle.com.

Terry...if you find a cast iron omelet pan PLEASE let me know!
I would love to have one! grinnnn

If Teflon overheats it will kill birds in a matter of minutes.
I don't use any non-stick cookware...all I have is heavy cast iron handed down from my great-grandmother, and heavy copper/stainless steel pots. I have some killer muscles in my arms from years of lifting those things! shocked laugh

Cindy,
Have you ever looked into a pot's and pan line
called "Anodized pots" I didn't think they had
the same crappola on the surface as non~stick.
*but they cost and arm and a leg*

I looked for them once when you guys were talking about them...I think when Jenn(?) had a topic about new cookware.
Guess I need to google them. nutz

Also on the news this week was a warning about the chemical used in Teflon will get in your blood stream and cause problems. USDA is making the manufatures of Teflon find something else to use to make it stick. I use cast Iron and some stainless all Teflon is put up not to be used again.

I have used the anodized pans for a couple of years and I love them..
Got them on a great sale so not sure of the "regular" price.
They work great.(the operator tho...)

It took awhile to find, but I found some cast iron omelet pans. Also a couple of cast iron woks if anybody's interested.

This first site has a 10-inch chefs skillet (LCS3) that they say is great for omelets as well as another 10 inch skillet (P10S3) that looks even more like an omelet pan to me and an 8 inch skillet (P8S3) that is identified as good for omelets. It also has a 2-handled wok on the second page.

Here is a link for another cast iron wok with a skillet-like handle.

Terry!
Those are some killer prices on those pans!
I don't have any with the extra handle...looks like they would be so much easier to pick up. I can't hardly lift several of my iron skillets...they are so heavy.

And I love that WOK!
My wok has a wood handle...and it's really loose. I need a new one bad...I'm gonna order that for sure.

Thank you!

Prices are cheap enough suppose that shipping cost twice as much due to weight? Cindy we use to have a cast Iron waffle Iron for a wood Range gave it to my sister as she collects things like that. Weighed a ton felt like.

Seems like I saw some around here awhile back but since only me I have more then anough as that is all Billie would use to cook with. She had every kind on the market but used her cast iron all her life and better food will not enter your mouth. I will look around here and see what I can see.
