Tessa thankyou for the link. They did it they made solar fountains. No electrical cords. Now I have one more thing I want for my garden lol. Of course where I would get the money I'm not at all sure.

Well, I found another one online and emailed the maker. She sent me directions right away. Here they are, happy creating!

The watering can fountain was so simple to make. I took a wooden dowel and
attached the watering can to that. You can either do that with heavy-duty
screws, or some other method. I didn't want to puncture my can, so I used
liquid nails to glue the dowel to the can.

Then when it's all dry and ready to go, I just stick the dowel in the ground.

You could probably just take a short shepherd's hook and hang the watering can
from that, if you don't want the hassle of attaching the can to the dowel.

You'll need some kind of pump for the fountain. You can do a search online for
"fountain pump" and you'll get tons of hits. There are quite a few places
online to buy from. Also, your local pet store might have some pumps. I know
Home Depot and Lowes carry them, as well. You'll need to figure out how much
lift you'll need. In other words, you'll need to measure from where your pump
will be placed to how high up the water will go. For me that's about 3 feet or
so. If your pump doesn't have enough lift, it won't be able to push the water
up that high. So make sure you get the proper pump.

Also, you'll need airline tubing. Your pump might come with it. You'll run the
tubing from the pump (which you will put in your basin full of water)
up to the
watering can. I just ran mine out of my tub and up the dowel and into the can.
Then I used a strand of fake greenery to hide the tubing and dowel. It works
pretty well.

If you have an outdoor electrical socket out in that area already ignore this. Otherwise think about how you are going to get the electricity to your pump it's important. Especially if you have "Mad Mowers" around who run over things like electrical cords, favorite plants, and anything else left out in the yard.

That's what I love about solar pumps. The price, not so hot. The not having to worry about electrical outlets, mad mowers, etc., awesome!

So where can you find these solar pumps? I would love to be able to put it right in the garden. I was going to put it right by the back door where the outlet is.

I don't know about just a pump because they have to have pannels. But on the same link you gave us was a list of about 10 fountains that were solar.

I did a search on ebay for 'solar fountain pump' and came up with a bunch. I'm no pump expert by far LOL - couldn't tell you how big a pump was (or how much it could pump) by it's voltage, but I'm guessing there's a small size that would work for this project. Something else to research!

As for the panels, T, I'd think they'd be easier to hide than a cord anyway. Even though we have electric outside, I'm looking to go solar when we get to the pond project sometime in the very far future LOL!

tessa, I am just getting to reading this, and you solved a problem i have been battling for over a year!

Your wal mart should see what is called a fountain pump. They will work for these type of projects. I got a well pump for my pond. The plan is to run a good flow of water up a tube through the well pump so it looks like it is pouring in to the pond. I have wanted to do this for so long. I found a well pump for a great price in Branson on vacation. So next spring its gonna be all about the pond for me!
