I don't believe too much compost is possible. Maybe with things like root veges and onions but for most plants which like a rich soil, esp vegies, more is better. Ensure it is fully broken down and well rotted before use. You're lucky to be able to access compost from the dump. Is it free? We can get mulch from the dump which is all the green waste matter, semi composted after shredding. It's $10 a cubic metre. I use it on my native gardens but not my vegies as it has some weed seed and it's too coarse.

As long as it's well rotted and finished you can't have too much compost! The more the merrier!

Well that's good news! As soon as this foot of snow goes away, I'm going to start stocking up. It's free at the dump here, and last year, it was beautiful-dark, almost as fine as dirt, and my God! It made my tomatoes TAKE OFF-I had to get 6 foot stakes to keep them upright and I can't even begin to count how many HUGE tomatoes we got! I've got a couple of new garden areas that I plan to do, which I will be heavily mulching with compost. Thanks for your help!
