The 2005 Perseid Meteor Shower

Glad you posted this Weezie. I definitely want to try to catch it. But there might be to much light polution for me to manage it and I can't get out in the country for a good dark night. Wish I could.

My only problem is getting up THAT EARLY!!!!
Posted By: Triss Re: Meteor Showers - August 10th, 2005 at 03:55 AM
Weezie,

You do not have to get up that early. You can go out tonight and will see them. I was out last night after reading this post and saw several shooting stars.

I sure won't see it tonite, its raining! Maybe it will clear up towards the end of the week, we can get up that early then go back to bed. My son is going on a "surviver" camp fri/sat so he should be able to see them-if it stops raining lol

Yeah, it's been cloudy here too.

But we forgot to go out last night,
got side tracked with a computer to fix...

My daughter woke me up at 2:10 this morning mad on her way to bed, and I got up and looked outside - tons and tons of stars, but nothing shooting by. Duh

I also looked at 5a.m. just after my husband left for work - NADA!

I'm hoping we get to see it on Friday - I just love this sort of thing.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Weezie! kissies

I didn't see any last night either. Too many clouds but will try again tonight.
Posted By: tkhooper Re: Meteor Showers - August 10th, 2005 at 11:39 PM
I think I'm going to try to get a nap this afternoon late so I can try and be up for them tonight that would be sooooooo neat.
Posted By: weezie13 Re: Meteor Showers - August 11th, 2005 at 08:10 AM
Welllllll we had a front go thru
with lot's of needed rain and lower humidity...
Whew, needed that very much...

But, won't get to see them tonight either... eek eek
Posted By: Triss Re: Meteor Showers - August 11th, 2005 at 09:01 AM
We have clouds tonight but so far dry, so no stars for us tonight, either.
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: Meteor Showers - August 11th, 2005 at 09:31 AM
Okay - just went outside - both in the front and backyards. Clear skies, lots of stars, saw some planes flying by, but aside from mosquito bites, nothing else. I really really hope I get to see it early Friday morning!

Are you loking the right way. The contstellation that they come from (Perseus) is difficult to see this time of night in my area, but one close to it Cassiopia is much easier to see at night, and that way is where I saw a few the other night.

For me that was the north eastern sky.

Question Lynne,
I have heard that when you live in the city,
because of the city lights, it's very hard
to see such sites in the night skies???

Do you have alot of street lights, etc???

I JUST SAW ONE!

I decided to go out after the dogs went out just to have a look in the sky for this...less than 5 minutes out there and I saw one!

It was like nothing I've ever seen before - so beautiful...the closest thing I can compare it to is like fireworks - when they shoot up before they explode you can see that white/blue light streaking upwards - well this one went horizontally but looked just like that - SO bright and beautiful - when it got to the 'end' I was waiting for it to pop! It looked like it was so close that I could have reached out and touched it. I've never seen anything like it in my life.

Of course I stayed out there for another 20 or 30 minutes waiting to see another one, but nothing. I am DEFINITELY gonna be out there tomorrow night/morning! Awesome! I hope you all get to see it too! Thanks for posting this Weezie!

We love the skies around here..
We're always lookin' up...

The stars, and planets and we get out our
telescope...and binoculars...
the kids get to bein' a little loud when
everyon'es settling down for the night and
we have to go in...
but it's nice...

I didn't get to see any, so many clouds,
but we desperately needed that rain..
But didn't get as much as we needed.

Weezie - we are in the suburbs - no street lights around for blocks! The only lights that are on, on our street are our front lights because of all the damage the kids did several years to the front of our house - throwing eggs, ripping out our mailbox - both numerous times, so we sleep with our front porch lights on always now, and have a motion detector light in the tree by the mailbox.

In the back of the house it is pitch black out.
Still... no shooting stars, nothing, NADA!

BUT... I did have a dream last night that I saw a whole bunch of them while driving my car around a bend in the road - my husband and daughter were asleep in the car. All of a sudden I could not see anything - it became a total white-out, and my car brakes failed - I couldn't see or stop perpl

Mary... What a great experience for you. Love how you described it and read with a smile on my face!

Lynne... That was an awful nightmare. Sorry you had it!

I fell asleep so I didn't see anything but the back of my eyelids until about 7 this morning. Maybe I can do better tonight. I'll try. Which is such a good excuse to laydown now and take a nap lol.

Well... got out of bed at 4:45 this morning, still dark out - my husband was leaving for work. Nothing in the sky but CLOUDS, CLOUDS and MORE CLOUDS...

What a shame!
I really love the wonders of nature, and this would have been a very welcome sight.

Ah, well...

Weezie - I wouldn't have minded if we had finally gotten some rain, and a little relief from this heat and humidity. Every day we've had promises, promises, promises, and not a single drop since July 27th.

Did I say how straw-like and crunchy the grass is?!?!?!? Not to mention all the flowering plants I am losing because I simply cannot go out in the heat everyday to water them??? What a summer - :p eek
Posted By: weezie13 Re: Meteor Showers - August 12th, 2005 at 08:54 PM
Yeah, here toooo.... but it cooled down 15 degree's in like 15 minutes the other night..
It's very nice so far today...
and promising scattered T~storms thru out the weekend...
Then into the upper 70's the following begining of the week..

Well I saw 4 last night. Our yard is very light though so they were pretty dim. This am when I went out it was too cloudy to see.

But it is cool and we too are hoping for rain.

It's raining pretty good here right now,
it's 10:46am, soooooooooo I'm hopin' the

and clear up by night time...
That would be just perfect. kissies thumbup flw
