"On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.

And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colors,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the curach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours
May the clarity of light be yours
May the fluency of the ocean be yours
May the protection of the ancestors be yours.

And so may a slow wind
work these words of love around you
an invisible cloak to mind your life."

oh Barley, you wouldn't believe this.

I heard it read once but didn't catch its origins. Later, all I could recall were the words "indigo", "red", "ocean" and "moon"...

so LOTS of hours finding it again.

Just did; so you get it hot from my research pen!

I am nothing if not enthusiastically tenacious!!

It is definitely worth all the effort to find it again!

Thank you for sharing it!

I particularly like the stanza "may a flock of colors..."

Yesterday a visiting priest had us all do this unusual experiment. He asked us to fold our hands together with fingers interlaced. Then he asked us "Which thumb is on top?"

Half of us said Right. The other half said Left.

He explained that this nearly even split of 50/50 is standard, although there is no known physical reason why. Just the practice of habit.

So then he asked us to do it again, and to purposefully put the other thumb on top.

You should have seen the reaction as so many people were wierded out to feel the thumb in the "wrong" place!

Then he explained that this, too, was a matter of habit and that a person could re-train herself to fold the hands the other direction if she was ever inclined to do that.

He used it as an example of how easily we fall into patterns of thoughts and behaviors that make us miserable but with time we can learn other ways that will bring us better results.

Afterwards, I wasn't surprised to hear that during the 44 years of his active ministry as a priest he worked as a psychologist!

So that's what I've been thinking about...

if life hurts me today, what might I do differently so that it doesn't hurt quite as bad tomorrow?

oh, and by the way, I'm ambidextrous, so either thumb on top feels "just right" to me. Maxi is a Right On Top Kid.
