We chopped a small austrian pine down in May - it gave no growth on the branches for two years and it was full of bugs

The thing is - I tried to get the stump out today. I've sawed, dug, jiggled - Jeff came out and and used his chisel, big hammer - now? His tire iron is stuck right down the middle of it.

He's not amused - ha ha

I seem to remember somebody (years ago) pouring bleach - or something - on a stump to get it to rot.

Is that what I'm supposed to do? I've googled this thing and nowhere does it say this is the thing to do - drano? Beer? Italian Brio?

Anybody know?

A chain.....
a truck or tractor
and FLOOR IT!

I just pulled a cedar stump up after Rita passed through/I used an axe,2 shovels,a pick axe& a machettee(those are fun!) then hooked tractor up with chain...make sure get all roots cut.I got a deep rut in front of flower bed,due to root not being cut.it jerked tractor so hard the battery fell out.

funcus makes trees rot.develope a fungas.

I understand, boring holes in the stump with a drill and filling them with rock salt will cause the stump to rot and fall apart. If the stump is dry enough I set fire to it and let it burn out. The fire will often smolder right down to the tips of the roots...AND... wood ash makes GREAT fertilizer, especially when left in the ground.

Rock salt . . . Hmmmmmmmmmmm . . . you mean the stuff you put on your driveway?

And about the fire - it's probably illegal here -we're not allowed to burn leaves, so I guess I can't do that. It would be a good idea though.

How long would it take to burn out?

Takes about 12- 24 hours to burn out a stump
+Yes, the same rock salt you put on your driveway.

OK - I like that idea - the rock salt, I mean. We covered it up again for the winter, but in spring if the stump doesn't loosen, we'll try the salt.

My mother and step dad worked and worked on a stump until they finally had a man with a stump grinder take care of it. It will drive you nuts after a while.

Yeah - I don't think I'll worry any more about it - just cover it up with something.

Or grow wild stuff (that grows in anything) around it.

Stump Grinder and a man.

I've got the man but he's too cheap to get a stump grinder . . . heh! heh!

Seriously? I think this spring it will be rotted enough - I'll just keep sawing at the roots till it lifts.

Or I'll cover it up and forget it.
