My 92 year old father lives with me. I bought him a rose today. He loves roses. After dinner, he was up like a shot. I said "What are you doing?" He said...."I've got to get that rose planted"

So off we went out to the garden. While I was waiting for him, I looked out to the area we were going to plant the rose and realized that a bird family has moved into my bird house. They are the first tennants this house has had. So as we made our way down to this spot, Dad says " Now just ignore the bird house like it's not there. Don't even look at it". I said "Why?"...He said "Because they may abandon the nest".

We planted the rose and came back up to the patio and sat and watched the happy couple stuffing the house with cedar chips and twigs. I'm not sure what kind of bird. It may be a wren but it is rather large for that. It is brown with a stripe running down it's head. Tail up.

So we just sat and enjoyed a few minutes of peace and quiet and all of a sudden some California Quail arrived to skim the grass of bugs. And finally just before we came in, a woodpecker arrived and had a look around.

Not bad for a 1/2 hour. The garden is alive and well it seems.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Catlover:

Memories are the sustance of life. The good ones are what keep us warm.

My dad taught me everything I know about gardening. He started me off many years ago when I was only about 5 or 6 years old. He took his hoe and drew a line in the garden bed and then told me to jiggle the radish seeds along the line. Then we turned the hoe over and tapped the soil down and gave it little drink. Pretty soon there were radishes everywhere. I guess that was the seed he planted in me at the time to take an interest in the garden.

Storm,
You are so blessed to still have your dad. Mine died 22 years ago and there's still not a day goes by that I don't miss him and all the things I wished we could have shared. Cherish him always and make the most of all that you can you never know... Thankyou for sharing a beautiful moment.
