I started running out of space for these so I thought about it and decided that I would have alot more room to store them if I would just cut the tops off. Then they fit one inside the other really well. And then I got to thinking how great the material these are made of would work in the lagasna composting beds. Anyway it's all good and it's all free and I think it's going to work just as well as the jiffy pots. Without having to worry about those things drying up on my and killing my seedlings.

I know it is way to early to begin preparing for next year but that's what I'm doing. I just do it when I think of it and hope I'm as ready as I want to be when the time comes. Next on my "just do it" list is cutting a piece of plexiglass to fit my potting table so that it will be a good cold frame come winter. I want to try that winter sowing that was mentioned on the forum somewhere. I saved the link and I'm excited about the idea.

So what did you use for a water proof tray underneath them while they were indoors? I've been wondering how best to handle that.

Just save your meat and or vegetable styrofoam
plates...
and put them on the bottom of the egg cartons..

And they're free and recycling...

I use the trays from Mac~n~Cheese,
Smoked porkchops, any assorted veggies in my grocery store come on them, even like 5 cucumbers
to a package..
or meat..

*****I personally don't use any meat ones myself,
I'm phobo~like with raw meat and germs,
but some feel it's okay, and if it works for you
then save 'em and use them...

I'd personally be careful using the meat trays...they are full of bacteria!!! If you washed them hot enough and long enough to kill the bacteria they would probably melt???? Duh

That's my thoughts, but some people
feel they like to use them,
and I wanted to include that as an
option..

I NEVER, EVER USE THEM..

The only one I use is from my Smoked Porkchops,
and it's a hard plastic one I can put in the
dishwasher...

But that's me..

I hate raw meat juice.... frown frown frown frown frown frown frown

I love meat. I guess I'm the odd one out on that subject. Ok if I use meat trays I will definitely bleach them good before I use them. And 110 F soapy water too. I'll get those little germs.

And I was thinking I could buy the stryofoam egg cartons too and use the lids to make trays for the cardboard bottoms. Of course what I would do with the bottoms escapes me at the moment but I'm sure I'll come up with something lol.

Maybe idea put the styrofoam ones under
the biodegradable one's..

Don't know if it would keep too much
moisture in or not???

You know my second favoritest word is
after COMPOST that is...............

I never would have guessed that. lol

But that sounds like a good solution to me. Thanks Weezie

the meat trays do not melt in the top rack of the dishwasher. i don't usually use them, but have had to save them before for stuff (can't remember what now nutz laugh laugh )

If you go to a locale grocey store and speak to the manager he would most likely sell you the styro trays for a couple of pennies each, then you don't have to worry about what was sitting on them or you don't have to buy a bunch of vegies and toss them out just for the trays lol

Oh getting the trays is no problem lol. This girl loves to cook and eat so I'll get plenty of trays between now and January. My next trick is to come up with the wood for the window shelf so I can fit more plants in the window.
