Here's part of my blue garden today.
The plant in the upper right is a blue lacecap hydrangea that hasn't bloomed yet,
but for the first time has many buds on it. thumbup

I absolutely love Centaurea Montana/Mountain Bluet.
It's a very easy plant to grow, thumbup
I do absolutely nothing to mine..
And it's all over my one bed...
Oh, I do dead head it as I walk by,
cause that makes it bloom longer.... grinnnn

Ok Weezie... spill - who are the cousins?!?

I've never noticed the scent on these - will have to go outside and stick my nose in them now!

My bees don't tend to bee on this plant as much as some others, so I haven't noticed a problem - yet!

Very pretty! I just realized how pink my garden looks today. Now I know what to do to add some blue. Thanks!

MissJamie - I've never collected seeds from this plant before. I usually deadhead it after the first bloom with hopes that it will bloom again once the temps cool down. I'll have to see if I can find any seeds this year, and I'll keep you in mind.

Weezie - I've never seen either of those plants for sale around here. Wherever did you find them?!? The pink flowers remind me a little of scabiosa - I've not had luck with that plant.
Posted By: tkhooper Re: blue garden today - June 6th, 2005 at 04:29 PM
That is a great looking plant. I saw that you had named it in the other post after I posted my question. My bust lol.
Posted By: weezie13 Re: blue garden today - June 7th, 2005 at 12:14 AM
That plant has seeds,
and they're a nice size seed too....
At the end of the year, instead of deadheading
all of them, leave a good handful on to make seeds.
You'll get a bunch.....

I scour the country side for rare and the different...
No, really, I do hunt in towards Buffalo nurseries though, I have just the basic stuff
out here in the boonies..

I've never seen the seeds on the yellow one though.
I'll have to look closer for those..

Those are just too nice - I'm jealous.

Everybody's into blue stuff here too. Guess it's just something that does well right now.

hi everyone,

Lynne: those flowers of your are just superb,i want to risk a political joke here and hope that i m kinda the only frog over here but...you d make a fortune selling those on st jean the baptist over in in qc.cuz blue is the quebec province color and color of those separatist, wich i really am not,my garden are all red, liberal colors here in qc....but enough for politics...some of it is boring anyhow.

WEEZIE: TRY TO THINK OF ME ALSOAND SINCE WE ARE NOT MILLIONS OF MILES APART I WILL SEE IF I CAN LOOK IN NURSERIES FOR THE COUSINS ,MAYBE WE VE GOT SOME IF WE DO I LL TELL YOU(sorry for the caplocks i just noticed it and won t retype it all over again.

I'm love flowers but I have to admit I'm partial to red and yellow and I think it may be starting to show that way in the garden lol. They have a yellow plant like that montana one? Hum ... very limited space butttttttttttt - alittle push, alittle shove ... maybe.

thumbup We have lots of room for them, but I can't dig up the rocks here - it's no joke that we live in Rockland County - can you believe that?!? And... he hates having to mow around all my plants. :p Oh, well... I'm gonna have to think of something nice to do for him so he won't fuss too much about starting another garden for me - hmmmmm...

Where DO you find these plants, Weezie?!?
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: blue garden today - June 7th, 2005 at 11:17 PM
Here's another blue flower I just found while surfing the web for something else...

Anchusa capensis \'Blue Angel\'
Posted By: weezie13 Re: blue garden today - June 7th, 2005 at 11:35 PM
Yes, there's a house I walk by
that has those, they look like a
forget~me~not flower, but the
leaves are big and round..

One day I will work up the nerve to knock
on the door... they just moved in and
didn't want to rush them.... shocked

Okay Lynne, here's another one...
gentiana_verna

And where do I find them.....

Nice things to do for hubby:

Plan a nice weekend for him where he can fish/hunt/bowl/go out with his friends.

Warm his towel while he's in the shower.

You know what.

Cook him those meals that say I know you work hard and I appreciate it.

Take something off of his "to do list."

Clean/mend/repair that item of clothing that is a "bone of contention" and tell him because it's his favorite. (even though you hate it!)

Make a desert that keeps in the refrigerator for a few days that he likes.

Complements work!!! Recognize what he already does.

Don't pelt with questions when he gets home lol. This one is so hard to do.

I just knew that's were you were going. But this is a family site so "I" did not mention anything like that.

I'm a good girl.
 angell

It's so easy to take a partner for granted. It happens slowly but it happens. And the funny think is most of the things I learned to do didn't take much time or effort.

Weezie,

You go girl! I am going to be very careful about what I post here from now on. I wouldn't want you making any Freudian slips while reading my posts. You might decide to ban me.

Excuse me while I find and edit that post I made yesterday about soil "probes!"

The yellow have nice sized seeds too. Once the heads go to fluff pull out the fluff and they are right on the end. Mine reseeds freely.

You know Donna, that plant that I have is in the
"Back 40" section, but it said it multiplied so I put it in one of my worst driest area's, so
it wouldn't get too crazy... and I pulled the flower heads off after they were done....
So, to be honest that's why I never saw one..
or had any babies...but it is getting smaller,
this year I looked at it, and it's alot littlier
than the years before, maybe I better get back
there and not deadhead them and take the seeds and try to get some more started...

Thanks for the info!!!!
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: blue garden today - June 10th, 2005 at 01:54 PM
Thanks for that link, Donna!
I almost picked up that plant yesterday at the very pricey nursery here, but it didn't have the zone hardiness on the tag and I couldn't get someone to help me. I just did a google search and haven't found the zone yet either.

Anyone grow this and can tell me?
Posted By: Gardencrazy Re: blue garden today - June 10th, 2005 at 07:51 PM
Lynn-
I pulled the tag on mine and the hardiness on the tag is zones 6-8(to-10F). Full sun to light shade. water thoroughly as needed. Fertilize lightly throughout growing season. Remove spent blooms to neaten appearance.
It is not a prolific grower. Mine did double in size but it was in a 4 inch pot when I got it last year.

Weezie-
I understand trying to control some of the spreading. What I have noticed is out of every head I drop to reseed you get 3 or 4 babies. So it really isn't to bad. They don't transplant well either. I think they are suppose to be drought tolerant but mine wilts when it needs water.

That's where I put it, way back in the "back 40" I call it.. It's so hot and dry back there..
Alot of hot, noon time sun, and it takes 4 sets of hose's to get back that far....
Needless to say, it doesn't happen that often...

I will take a peak at them..

The White one's of the MOUNTAIN BLUETS of mine
are bloomin' now too..
I have to go back and get a picture of those.
Posted By: plants 'n pots Re: blue garden today - June 10th, 2005 at 11:02 PM
Ooooooh, please do get a picture of them!
My blue centaurea are just about finished blooming - that didn't last very long this year! Hopefully I'll get another flush of blooms sometime soon.

I did pick up ANOTHER blue plant yesterday, though it's an annual here. It's salvia blue angel - a really vibrant cornflower blue color too! cool I'll try to post a picture if there are any blooms still left on it - we just had a major thunderstorm here again - only lasted 20 minutes but boy was that torrential rain. Thought my pond was going to overflow this time! shk
Posted By: weezie13 Re: blue garden today - June 10th, 2005 at 11:34 PM
We could use some rain....
It KEEPS PASSING US BY!!!
And that's not good!!!

Lynne, Have you ever seen the white Centaeura's???
