...Golden rod makes a great wild flower, you can believe them but dont let them talk you into planting any in your perrenial beds. Has anyone ever tried to pull that stuff out? Looks like alien roots, all hairy and WIDE RANGING! dev
I have been pulling all weekend.
Take my advice, admire it from afar, real far!!!!

With everyones garden winding down, this sounds like a good topic starter to let everyones imagination start drifting as we move toward winter. Almost like one of those comediens who say" You know your'e a redneck if"...

I agree with you 100%.....
That's why I always say, it can be
aggressive, or weedy, and may not be
for everyone...

For my style of gardening, because I have alot
of "wild~back~40" I do let mine grow in area's
I do not mow, or have any type of flower bed in..

And I cut down the next years growth by doing what you do, pull it out, and cut off the seed pods/heads...that way only one or two seeds escape and only one or two roots stay and I can still have a nice plant, and no bullies in the garden..

I wouldn't ever plant it either..there is enough of it growing wild around here, besides anyone with allergies or hayfever are usually effected by this plant...It is banned from any of my gardens!!!!

As I understand if from all I read,
is that the poor golden rod gets blamed for
allergies... when in actuallity, it's the
RAGWEED plant, that sends out pollen's at the same
time, but is not as showy of a plant and always
get's blamed for it...

You are right about ragweed, but I feel goldenrod is almost as bad..They both flower about the same time, But for me just sticking my nose up to a scented/or unscented flower means sinus problems or being outdoors when the wind is blowing, But who can keep from checking to see if a flower or plant has a scent LOL laugh laugh laugh laugh

I'll have to read up on it again..
From what I remember, it doesn't have the
right stuff to give people allergies...
I don't remember what it was... but it wasn't
at fault...

I'll hunt it down and post if I find it...

Okay, here's a quick exurp from something I read.

Goldenrod actually has a sticky pollen that doesn't drift through the air.
Do a GOOGLE SEARCH....
Type in
Ragweed vs. Goldenrod...

See what you come up with and read about... thumbup flw

That's what I hear too - I think one of the rods can give allergies - Harris Weed, I think - not sure.

But I've heard that it's just the ragweed.
