Glad to see you back Jiffymouse! smile

Lets seeeeeeeee, today, i just put hangers on all the baskets for 8 hours. >.< That was boring. But i got to put down some lugs in the poinsetta house! That was fun, cuz every once in a while, a mister would go overhead and cool me off ^.^ Only problem was that it was so humid in there i almost couldn't breathe frown

And then i saw my poor walkingstick/angelwing/bambooo bagonia eek Sorry... That thing's just really got me down right now... I keep on crying a little bit ters

Well, today I borrowed a ladder from a friend, and had hubby climb it to check the gutter situation. I wanted to use my flower bed, and have it not get drowned anymore. Sooo, he climbs up and doesn't see anything around the area that it's been dripping from. We move the ladder to the end, where the downspout connects.. and lo and behold, there's a tennis ball, a perfect fit, right at the top of the spout. He chucks it, and we have a gusher for about 10 minutes. I had NO idea so much water could be up there. Really kinda sad that it just dumped into my yard, and I didn't have a rain barrell. Anyway, he did his part, so I did mine then.

I started dumping the 2 bags of compost I bought (cuz I don't feel like waiting to make my own this late in the game.. I'll start for next time around.), and then some topsoil, and raked it all out. Then I took my shovel, and dug up the very soaked clay dirt underneath it all, and that was the easiest digging I've ever done in my yard! LOL. Once it was all kinda dug up and loose and mixed, etc.. I started making holes for my MUMS and and my rudbeckia gloriosa daisies. All together, 5 new plants. I planted 4 down in the freshly made up flower bed. The last mum, I planted on the other side of my porch, so it evened out that side some. I will take pics when I can. My camera is kinda dead at the moment. I spread new mulch out, but tried to not get too much this time. muggs

Today in the garden I ...

...worked on the pond...again.
That's all I do every spare second.

It started out so simple, and so small.
After 4 days of me and Brennan digging by hand, Andy brought in the backhoe. The more I do on it now, the more I think about other things I want to do, and it gets bigger and bigger. The neighbors think 've lost my mind (again!) (Hmmm... shk ), because they see me out there constantly in shorts and combat boots, in mud, in a big hole with a shovel and a wheelbarrow. Tomorrow I'm getting the backhoe involved again and just getting it DONE before it rains! If it rains tonight I will be SO screwed!

Cindy, you must be feeling better. Are you taking pictures?

We're adding onto our house (look at my pictures)and my husband went up on the roof yesterday to uncover the chimney. He didn't think about the shingles being hot, but they were. When he was coming down he couldn't get his feet onto the ladder but didn't want to let go with his hands. So now he has blisters on the palms of his hands. Wish I had had the camcorder going. funniest home videos...

I started out with good intentions. Instead, I have a dead mower, my friend's mower isn't working for me, and I tried for an hour to get mine to work, and now, I'm super sweaty for nothing. IF he decides to fix the mower today, I'm not doing it. I'm to effing hot now, and really ticked off. *grrrr* mad

And to top it all off, my camera is dead too. Now, I can't even take pics of all the new stuff. eek

Maybe I should go back to bed till tomorrow.

well i've successfully completed my job ^.^ My boss gave me his home phone number and i was like "ummmmmmmm aren't you married? and old enough to be my dad?" And he's like "Noooooooo i didn't mean that! I meant hang out with me and my family sometime!" so i was like "okie dokie!"

And then i went to the water garden and grabbed a lil baby white lotus that Mr. Hat saved for me for when i leave smile Its sitting in a pitcher full of water, next to a window with rocks covering the roots right now, cuz i donno what to do with it Duh

But ya, no more job for the summer, which means i get a nice full week to practice with the band and pack up for college smile I got all my stuff bought already *boox, pens, paper, folders, etc.* so ya, all i gotta do is figure out how to bring my 43 plants to the dorm ^.^

I'll be taking my lil Sentra to college ^.^ I'll definately have to make two trips if i expect to get all my stuff there in one shot. So ya, i'm gonna make one trip with all my stuff to start out with, and then I'll make a second trip to get the rest, with boxes from the greenhouse. My car has air conditioning, and the drive is approximately 45 minutes. The problem is that i'm on the 3rd floor and there isn't an elevator >.< So what i'm afraid of is dropping one shk

Phoebe, sounds like you were a great employee, if your boss wants you to come visit with his family! What kind of music do you & your band do? Will you still be playing with them while you go to college? How often do y'all practice? Does your band have a name?

Well, take care, while you're away and stay safe!

HowD Sami!
We write our own songs, and ya ^.^ It's pretty cool! What's gonna happen soon is my boyfriend is gonna take my place on bass. He's much better than i am, and i'll have time to go to college n stuff smile But ya, as of now, we play progressive metal. If Chris has any trouble with bass lines, then i can always help him out ^.^ The name of the band is World Ablaze, and we'll play September 12th at the Bomb Shealter in Manchester NH. Pheobe, very happy for you.. but check in whenever you can! You will be missed!

I took my 35mm out and dusted it off, and then took it to walmart and had it all put on cd. Hmm.. I think that the film speed was wrong (I didn't buy it, someone borrowed my camera and left me a roll), the pics were kinda grainy. I cleaned em up the best I could. See some of what I've done here. Of course, there's some weeds in there too..lol. Some of which, I'm going to post in the mystery thread!

Well, I guess I'll double post, since it's been awhile. laugh

Today I was walking my yard, as I do often, to see if anything's growing or changing, etc.. and a few days ago I noticed my maple tree is finally getting some leaves again! I thought it died, after I went to all that trouble to dig it up and all the leaves fell off of it! But now, there's itty bitty leaves popping out of it! Yea!! And so I was looking at my other tree, the only one that seemed to live from my free trees from ADF. I looked closely at the mulch, it looked like there was something on it. I used a stick to poke it, and it OOOZED. EWWW!!!! Ok, not sure what the heck this nasty stuff is, but I just got rid of all the mulch around that tree, and replaced it. This stuff was EVERYWHERE in the mulch around this tree. I didn't see it anywhere else, so hopefully, just some freak thing. Some of the little balls oozed clear liquid stuff, and other ones popped out white centers, like a core to a pimple. *blech* :p I just bagged up the mulch and carried it away.

So, I proceed to walk more of my yard, inspecting mulch, and yanking weeds. Before I know it, I'm out there 2 hours, and now I'm soaked.. my hose is leaking and when I was spraying the new mulch, it sprayed me as well..lol.

Lastly, I got to the only other tree in my front yard that I didn't pluck yet, but was considering pulling up today. They were planted beginning of June, and never budded, so I tossed most of them already, that were in the pots on my porch. But there was still one in my front yard to go. When I was looking at it today, there were new little buds on it!! So, I may get a matched set in the front yard yet! The one that is already growing is a Washington Hawthorne, and the so is the one that I just noticed starting to bud! Some idiot/kid/jerk already pulled my redbud out, before I had a chance to.. but it may have bloomed too, had it been left to go. Duh mad

So, now I must change into dry clothes, as this is kinda not comfy, and then get some lunch and head to work.

Today in the garden.....I cleaned my "pond" out, which meant syphoning the rest of the water out of it. I drank about a gallon of water that was thick, green, slimy...and had little red half-inch long wormy things like centipedes squirming in it. I'm not too good in the "syphoning with a garden hose" department! laugh I was WISHING I would puke! I finally put in the "unknown bulbs" my neighbor brought me. They were HUGE...can't wait to see what they are. Speaking of bulbs...early this year I got my hands on a bunch of little bitty bulbs...had no idea what they were...well I made a heart shaped garden with a gazing ball in the center and planted all of the bulbs in it...well...they started blooming and they are FABULOUS! Apparently there were 3 different kinds of bulbs cause I have 3 different styles and colors of flowers...Dark Pink...White...and a Blush color. None of them are more than 6 inches tall. Gonna have to do some searching to find out what they are. I'm gonna start some of the seeds today that Bestofour sent me.
I don't know where they came from but all of a sudden I have Zinnias popping up in the strangest spots in my yard...I'm gonna leave them where they are and collect the seeds when they're ready.

Ahhh...my pond's lookin' so good!
Bought 4 little goldfish to put in it, but I should have bought 24! I can't ever see them! They go behind the rocks and hide all the time. Brennan got his little fishing pole out as soon as we got home today to try to catch one! shk

Raked more leaves (yes, it's fall already!) and gathered more zinnia and morning glory seeds, and some redbud seeds from my tree.

And, made friends with a few more skunks! I love those little critters!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: today in the garden part 3 - September 22nd, 2004 at 05:10 AM
We purposely leave food out for the "critters and love watching them.

I collected seeds today and I planted 2 yuccas, moved some canna lillies, planted Cindys butterfly bush, cleaned out my veggie beds(2nd season starting), moved my spicebush and planted some "mystery" plants that I found in my "yard trash" pile(I think they are cukes).

It's been overcast and drizzly...but the temps around 80-85...and thats GREAT! I'm sooooo tired of the HEAT!

George got me thinking(he says thats a BAD thing) and I'm thinking of building a trellis and site blocking fence tommorrow.

I mowed de~lawn!! UGH!
With the push mower...

Watered all of my coleous's...
Had alot of fun with those plants this year....
(gotta do some clippings if I can find the window space???)

Cleaned the yard up some, winter's coming you know. Starting to put some of my pots away before all the leaves cover them! frown mad

And picked some Jalapeno's and Cayenne Peppers, and sent some down to the neighbor......
And my nephew came down today too (**One of these 20 year old wanna be macho~know~it~all boys), and I handed him one of each, and jokingly , told him to gnaw on those on the way home.....
He processed to bite one off, giving me a look of WATCH THIS, I'M A grinnnn I tried not to look at him while he was eating them, and then he popped the jalapeno in and still pretended like nothing was going on, confused Then, all of a sudden, this choked up, wee~little squeakie voice said, from behind me said, Ah, can I have something to ters drink, and I could hardly contain myself laugh ,
He was on fire, and could hardly talk......
I told my brother, to watch the seats of his new truck on the way home for evidence of what he JUST ATE!!! shk OH MY GAWD!!!
Those peppers were unbelievable HOT, I tasted them, and complimented myself on a job well grown with them!!!! TOOOOOOOOOOO FUNNNNNNN~NEEEEEEEEEE!

And inspected my punkin's, I should get some decent sized one's considering I didn't plant them until the middle of July (I was soooooo far behind this summer)

Anyhow, Anyone still picking zucchini???

George was off of work today and decided it was time to paint the outside of the house :p I started out by pressure washing where it needed it and he came behind me with the roller. I had to go around and cut in all the trim. Didn't mind doing down bottom...didn't like standing on a ladder to do the top frown ! We got 2 sides done and 1 other side cut in. I hope we get it done before Jeanne strikes. I'm gonna be SO MAD if she messes up my new paint job!

Let's see...I took a picture of a frog planter with zinnias and dahlias in it, put it in the scanner to download, then got it back out to take a pic of the new skunk last night, stopped on the way to the computer to make a Jim Beam and Pepsi, now I can find the camera just fine, but no memory card in it. Well, I'm beat. I was out there for at least 3.5 hours, digging, weeding, planting, watering, etc.. and I still didn't get my bulbs in the ground. Oy. I did plant a new shrub, called a Diablo. It's a very pretty purple color, with a neat cinnamon colored bark. And I got PANSIES. I wasn't gonna take a chance with seeds again.. I saw pretty colored pansies at SS when I was there, and I scooped up a flat of them. (A flat hold 6-six section plants, so that's what, 36 plants?) I put them along the front of my one flower bed. One is called Halloween II Pansies, and they are a small, very dark purple. I must get pictures!

Tomorrow, weather permitting, I'll be planting bulbs- tulips and daffodils. laugh

I don't know what is wrong with me but I busted my buns yesterday. Finished painting the 3rd side of the house(only 1 side to go...yippee!). Then I purchased 400 lbs of compost,400 lbs of top soil and 400 lbs of peat. I dug out all my veggie beds and added fresh compost, etc. I have my second season of veggies started. Tomatos, peppers, broccoli, lettuce, sweet peas, cucumbers and cabbage. With the rest of the compost.etc. I'm putting in 2 new beds, one along my driveway and one on the west side of the house. I moved my strawberry plants and put some "mystery bulbs" in. I cleaned out my pond and added some plants around it. Collected seeds that were ready. I didn't stop there either,I baked a ham and make mac&cheese and green beans(secret to awesome green beans...add the juices from the ham while they are cooking),sweet potatos and bisquits. Watched "The Passion of the Christ and fell asleep on the couch by 10pm.

What a day...now I have to try and get it in gear to get back in the garden and finish my new beds.

Did you get your painting finished? I hate to paint anything that doesn't involve a picture! If it's just a solid color, I get bored with it after a few minutes.
Here\'s what I like to paint!

Raked leaves yesterday, then ran over them with the mulching mower and bagged them up to take to my place. It's super sandy there, so I will have to do a lot of prep to the soil to be able to grow stuff like I do here. Seems like when something goes bad, everything goes awry! Yesterday was NOT a good day! frown

I had gone to the farm Saturday to pick up some acorns for the little squirrel I've been feeding here. It got smooshed by a car yesterday.

Ran over my cell phone with the riding mower. laugh

Spilled a glass of wine on the floor, went to get a towel to clean it up and slipped on it when I came back into the kitchen and busted my a$$. eek

Got my hair caught in the wheel of the cart thing that you pull behind the riding lawn mower. Didn't have a knife or scissors handy, so I had to pull half my hair out to get loose. shk

A day in the life of Cindy.

Thanks, Karen. I just loaded some more.
The picture quality isn't so good because I scanned them and didn't fix them before I put them in the album, plus lowered the file size (quality) so they'd show up faster.

Cindy, those are beautiful. I wish I could paint. I sew. Have been sewing since I was 10. And if it's pre drawn I can paint it. But not free hand.

I do those detailed punking carvings. Didn't do any this year punkings are 4 bucks each and I didn't have seeds to grow my own. I'll have to find some seeds for next year.

My gardening this week has slowed to a crawl. I'm still slowing digging things up to bring in and still watching what I still want seeds off of.

My mom's trying to catch me at home so she can use the computer and everyday this week I have told her. I'll be home only to have to jump up and run some where at the last minute. I hate those jump and run trips.

Yesterday and today it's cold and rainy, so not much to do in the garden. I'm going to put more pictures in my webshots of my yard and pond today. Sounds like a plan!
[Linked Image]
This is one when my pond was half finished. It's come a long way since then. My little fishies have doubled in size in the last 2 weeks, and Kermit is growing into a BIG frog! He floats in the pond at night and looks rather satanic, floating there with his eyes stuck out of the water. SPOOKY!

Weezie,
I am obsessed with rocks! Some of those rocks I've had since I was 17 years old! My mom used to take us out on the weekends in our old '47 Willy's Jeepster and we'd go "rock hunting". I've been hooked ever since. I've moved those rocks (about 25 pick-up truck loads) a million times since I was 17 years old! Of course, the amount of rocks has grown over the years.

Every garden in my yard is surrounded by rocks. Rock paths, rock steps down my hills, rock patio, etc. OBSESSION! laugh

The water in that pond.....well, I guess I'm obsessed with it, too. I want it nice and pretty and clear. Hard to do with 9 fish in the pond, but I work on it every single day! I'm told that little yard ponds ("water features"? thumbup He will make some woman very happy one of these days!

Cindy,
I have the base of my cherry tree in a square and it's all the rocks we collected.... most have fossils in them and shiney streams of different colors and things that look like eyes and oh, I could go on about them..... I would push the kids down to the creek in the stroller and we'd "LOOK" at all the rocks and load the stroller up with all of our finds and treasures...well, it was great filling it up, but I'll tell you the trip back home, UP HILL WAS NOT!!! frown :p I remember it very well. But I love looking at them and remembering the great time during the summer and the creek with the kids!! cool thumbup

And my dad loved rocks, he'd find them, bring them home and he'd see things in the rocks, shapes, so many things, and fossils, ohmygosh!!
You can't imagine the amount of rocks this man collected...
And he loved to make rock gardens.......
and rock steps, and rock walls and he gave me a ton of rocks for a raised bed area, I never aquired the "Irish wall building gene", mine kept falling over and not fitting quite right!!!

Someday, I'd like to do a pond, but not for quite sometime...too many things on my plate at this point.

Your water was very noticable how clean and blue*ish* it is!!! First thing I saw!!!

You do great work!!! (Brennan too!!!)

Cindy,
You can take a vacation up here,
but I'd put you to some work!!!
Let's see, garden still has to be emptied,
maybe some manure and leaf mould for the winter cover...
all my flats, pots, etc. into the basement...
hose's rolled up, lawn mowed and leaves chopped,
3 more compost bins to empty before I mow and chop leaves...,
oh, my would I put you to work!!!
Of course, you probably wouldn't think that
was much of a vacation, wouldchya!!!???

I always dislike yard work this time of year, it's so wet and chilly, but believe it or not,
it's supposed to be up to 65*'s by Friday, so fickle!!!

Well, today in the garden I pulled up all my nasturium and gathered all the seeds, still lots of green but the cold nights (a few light frosts here) was making it look ratty.

Also dug up all the gladiola and bagged it (I store them in onion bags) and hung it in the closet. There's about 75 of them , my back is achin'.

But HAVE GOT TO mow the both lawns today, we have so many leaves down from the rain, and with it raining we couldn't mow, *and it's just not me, it's the whole town too!*
