and as soon as you have filled it with water realized that it is not big enough and you would really like it to be bigger. I did that with my first pond. So I redug it the next year. It is 2 feet x 4 feet, formal, and has water dripping from a wall fountain into it. There are 3 pond comets and a koi living in this pond.

I dug a second and what I though was a big pond just this last year and now I want it bigger! It has a waterfall and will be more of a wildlife pond.

My big pond can be seen from my new screened in porch and the reflections of the sky and trees are so beautiful.

OK let me hear from you, should I dig it bigger?

What size ponds do you have?

Go for it. I plan on starting one this summer, I plan to dig it large enough that the neighbours cats might drown in it if they fall in. If that don't work I'll build it big enough for the neighbours to fall in. Seriously though, what size pump do you have, would it be sufficient for a larger pond?

I have a little giant PEM-020. I can`t remember now how many gallons that takes care of.

In my little, formal pond I don`t have a pump. It is in shade in the summer and full sun in the winter. During the summer it is crystal clear. If I heat the pond in the winter it turns green until the trees leaf out.

The big pond is about 4 feet x 10 feet and varies in depth from 2 1/2 feet to 18 inches to 8 inches. I probably need to go out and remeasure that for more accuracy.

Oh I forgot to add, so you are having a bit of trouble with your neighbors and their cat?

ya and it's my brother in law, he has 5 cats, 2 dogs and a teen boy. He can't afford to feed any of them so I always have the yard full. Plan on thinning them out this summer, think I'll only leave him the boy. wink
