Do you think this is a Mountain Ash?
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a86/suenb/73d6667f.jpg
I found 2 of these while transplanting flowers from my overcrowded flower bed. It is about 1 foot high so it seems to have grown quite fast --- I think I would have noticed if it had been there last summer. I was hoping it was some kind of shrub because I don't have room for a 30 foot tree. frown Any ideas?

Not sure what it is, but I'm going to vote no on the mountain ash - the pictures I've come up with so far all have more rounded leaves than these. Sorry I can't be of more help - been looking for something matching your pic, but having a hard time finding anything.

You can tell by the uneven base that it is an elm. I am not sure which variety.

I have an elm tree & the leaves are not the same shape as this - they are however about the same texture. If you have a picture of one please post.

I am not sure if it is a mountain ash because the leaves seem more jagged. I saw a Mountain Ash tree (about 15 feet high) today on my walk & the leaves were more smooth & the petals seemed smaller than my little one foot high plant. It is probably some kind of weed - it would be nice if it was a shrub of some sort. grinnnn I unfortunately don't have room for any more trees. ters

I suspect it isn't a tree.

Not knowing what part of Canada you're from isn't helpful. I found this pic of Mountain Ash leaves from the UP of Michigan and they look closest to what you have that I could find.

Saic, I vote for American mountain ash. Although it doesn't look like it in Papito's photo, the photo in my Audubon field guide shows extremely saw toothed leaves. I couldn't find any pictures online that quite looked like it though. The closest was the one from LMT.
