I bought this feeder last week at Christmas Tree Shops.
I had to chuckle when I read the label and it said quite clearly on front - SQUIRREL PROOF!!! I knew, without a doubt, that there was noooooo way it was squirrel-proof, but since it was pretty inexpensive, I decided to give it a try. It didn't take long at all, before the squirrels found this great new addition to their unsatiable appetite! Wish I had saved the label so I could send a picture to the ridiculous company! laugh Duh nutz

Ther is no such thing! Just put out extra for our bushy-tailed friends. That's what I do.

There IS such a thing.
The No-No feeder is not squirrel proof though. I would call it "not destroyable" by squirrels, since theres no metal or plastic parts. But not 'proof'.
What a happy fat squirrel you have there!

I'm with Thornius, put out extra for the buggers. I find them very entertaining.

I fed the squirrels at my old home partly because I felt sorry for them and partly to protect my plants.
Every day they got scoops of birdseed, apples, old bananas and whole grain bread. Plus fresh water.
I miss the rascals now, but I know that my former neighbors are feeding them.

I love watching the squirrels almost as much as the birds, and my friends in Australia absolutely adore seeing them, so I encourage them to come to my yard to get lots of pictures to send to Australia.

I've had them come in the store looking for treats. laugh
Lynne does that feeder with the green cage seem at all effective keeping them off?

We have alot of squirrels in our neighborhood....they get fed well by all of us....they only thing i hate is they feel the need to burry their peanuts in my flower bed and toss out all the flowers.....I am forever putting them back!!!!

I saw the squirrel in your store, Wrennie! There is one in a city park here in Nashville that has taken a shine to my grandson and I.

Oh, Lynne, I love those pictures. luv He looks like a very happy, well-fed squirrel. laugh There is NO such thing as a squirrel-proof bird feeder! frown So, I just do what everyone else does and put out extra food, then I sit back and enjoy their antics. wink luv

I havent used this one but did order it in for Ted. He has one for 15 years hanging in his white birches and never had squirrel problems. The uv rays finally did his old one in.And yes he lived in a squirrel rich neighborhood.

This one I have had hanging on my pine tree, about 10 inches off the trunk. The perches collapse and the tube is too long for Mr.S to hang by his feet and reach the seed.He tried a couple of times but couldnt hold on. The seed ports are too smooth for him to get a grip on. I never saw the red squirrels chipmunks or flying squirrels on it either. The perches lid and base are all metal. thumbup

And this one the gray squirrels cant get into. Reds, flying & chippys can though. The bottom is also grates so the seed the birds knock out fall to the ground. I've had downys get right in there to feed. The hairys sit on the outside and reach their heads in. Chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, finch & sparrows all hop right in there.

They're not cheap, but like mom always said 'you get what you pay for'.

NO/NO Bird feeder

Wrennie, those first two look great. My neighbor has the caged one and it doesn't work because we have the flying ones around here. She says they manage to get at it.
Posted By: Wrennie Re: squirrel proof ??? - March 9th, 2007 at 08:11 PM
Yup the flying will get in there. I dont mind them so much tho' since they're nocturnal and dont keep the birds off.
Posted By: patches1414 Re: squirrel proof ??? - March 10th, 2007 at 01:08 AM
Wrennie, the site you posted has some great bird feeders but I couldn't find any like the first two pictures you posted. Duh I really like the first one and I think it would do the job. wink
Posted By: Wrennie Re: squirrel proof ??? - March 10th, 2007 at 12:19 PM
The first one is by a company called K-feeders.
I could get it through my store. It goes for about $75. Yup $75.
But if it lasts 15 years like Teds did,
75/15=$5 a year!!

Gee, the squirrels plant my sunflowers for me. It is always a surprise to see where they put them!
