This bee-atracting plant dies back below ground, blooms in late june. Each flower is on a single stem, which reaches about 8 feet in height, and the blooms drench easily in the rain, leaning waaaaaay over. The seeds are the shape of dark brown grains of rice.

There's a larger version in my Flowers and such album. What is it, please?

netty & weezie, indeed you are right smile Thank you! Now you have me wondering. I have these seeds marked Joe-Pye Weed. The pod reminds me of milkweed, but I pulled it off the plant and it was not milky or sticky.

Another riddle smile Told ya I was an avid amateur smile

That looks exactly like Milkweed Pods to me....

If the seeds were that brown, the milky sticky sap is usually dried up by that time...

You pulled that off the plant of the above picture???????????????????
or did I read that wrong????? Duh Duh

weezie, the pod/seeds did not come from the Joe-Pie Weed pictured above nor did they come from my garden smile

Of course, now I'm just scratching my head (and feeling a bit silly) Duh

I think I got it...

No, never feel silly... we alll learn somehow, and in some way...
It's better to find out with friendly folks..
Always glad to help...

Keep on askin' questions, that's how you learn..
(I still learn every day, literally)
*and I still scratch my head every day...
more at the kids, than the garden these days..

The seeds and seed pod look like butterfly weed pods, I have some growing in the back yard, and they look just like those.

I agree with comfrey...butterfly weed pods. The other milkweed pods are bigger and have little bumps all over them.

This is wonderful as I have TONS of these seeds. Did you know you can eat the entire plant (not raw)? The tiny tidbits that come from Google...

"The flowers can be dipped in boiling water for about 1 minute then dipped in pancake batter and fried like fritters and eaten moderately."

LOL! Thank you all for clueing me in on these seeds and the Joe-Pye Weed. I have collected many seeds from Joe and hope to have him roaming freely at the edge of the wood in no time smile
