GREAT wealth of knowledge here. I'm glad that I joined up. I've recently started to get my hands green after years of just looking at flowers and plants.

When I got my house back together after Hurricane Katrina I started rearranging plants and other flowers to, you know, start learning and growing things.

Backing up about 3 months BEFORE hurricane Katrina, My son came over one day before he left to go to North Carolina and in the back of his truck he had some flowers that he got from his neighbor that was just throwing things away. He didn't have much room for them and asked if I could just take them off his hands.

Well, I planted these 2 plants in the front of the house and low an behold "I DO HAVE A GREEN THUMB" or at least I thought I did. Well, one day I was mowing the yard and weed eating and I did the mother of all no-no's. I got too close to these plants and whacked them down at ground level and my heart just fell out. I just chalked them up as a learning experience. I dug up the roots and threw them in the back yard and forgot about them. Well about 2 weeks later when I was cleaning up the back yard I saw these 2 carcasses and they actually weren"t dead. They actually had new growth on them. I was reenergized and planted them in a pot and nurtured them. Well, to this day I don't know what they're called but NOT ONLY did they survive they also created a long stem of pods or bulbs (excuse the ignorance) and when the long stems grew too heavy these stems actually fell on the ground. Once on the ground the bulbs would release from the stem. I said what the heck. I planted the bulbs and gave them plenty of sunlight and water and NOW I have more of these starting to grow.

Anyway, once these stems were on the ground the stem actually started to die off. I picked up some of these bulbs and potted a few and NOW THEY'RE growing.. (see I still have a green thumb)

As you can see these plants are now starting the stemming process all over again and soon I'll have about 20 or more bulbs to start the seeding process. WOW.. I must be blessed with 2 green hands or something. (NOT)

I've taken pictures of these 2 that have gotten so big that I planted them in the front yard. Here are the pictures:



Can you tell me what kind of plants these are?

Also, the leaves have brown spots on them and it looks like there's something eating them or maybe not enough nutrients in the soil. Any help to maintain these remarkable resilient plants is GREATLY appretiated.

Thunderbolt I am not sure could it be Corn plant? Somebody will come by and be able to help you. Just wanted to welcome you the gardenhelper. Hope you like it as much as I do. You may want to repost this in Mystery plant forum.

The only thing I can think of is a PINEAPPLE LILY??
But the flowering stalk just doesn't sorta seem right, dunno for now????

It's sure is beautiful though. Someone will know sooner or later these people are amazing! Don't worry bolt.

I thought they were some variance of the Dracena marginate but I couldn't find anything that came close to the stalk and leave combination. Corn Plant too came pretty close too but not exact matches..

I too thought that it was some type of Dracaena.

Can you tell us how big/tall they are now???

Thanks.. heh.. It's coming along. After we complete rebuilding the inside of our house TT (Thunders Better half) and I will get the garden and other plants organized. In the mean we have a really nice array of annuals, ferns, jasmine, red and pink hibiscus, tons of caldeums, and some other potted plants to tend to. I had asked a question in my original post about these leaves having spots and brown patches. I've read some articles about mites. heh.. TT and I are starting to preen the dead leaves that are on the bottom and wiping the others off. I know that these are resiliant plants and I'd hate to see them sucome to bugs. We're watering this little garden about every 5 - 7 days. I'm thinking that it also may be night slugs too. Any suggestions on what may be causing this.

Here's an update on the sprouting of the pod:

Bazzar flower can't say as I have ever seen one like that before.. very Pretty and interesting!!
I would Love to hear what kind of plant it is!!

I'm not sure but I think they might be Crinum.
Do a Google search and see what you think. At any rate they are beautiful!

YES.. Spider Lilly.. Both my plants are flowering now. I should have 20 - 40 seeds/bulbs soon.. THANKS to all that have helped me here.. GREAT group of folks..

Oh.. My boss is having a Crawfish boil (I'm from New Orleans area) this weekend and he says that I can have a couple of passion vines as long as I bring some pots and some soil. (no brainer). I can't wait.
