Just found some at Lowe's today...beautiful apricot/orange flowers! Bought 'Bowles Mauve' last year and it's starting to bloom again now. Question: can they be cut back? They tend to look a little leggy after a while.
Might be a good question for Michael, He posted a picture of his in blooming fine in Gardenchat!!
It sure is a pretty flower!!
Yes! It can be cut back. Hopefully it isn't sprouting so quickly. So you can cut it. Usually cut when it isn't sprouting...
I always cut back when it is in dormancy. But I understand what you mean by it can get a little leggy. lol
Thanks Diane! =]
Thanks Michael! How far back do you usually cut yours? The ones I bought already have buds, so I don't want to cut them back now...rather wait until after they bloom.
Yes, wait until blooms dry out. Do it in winter when it isn't growing. I usually cut where I start seeing small sprouts at. That's not to far down, but not showing all the leggyness.
Lets just say this, make it look like a small bush....
I'll post a pic of mines. I cut it back this year I think in late december. I will post a picture of it currently.
Wow! Yours look really nice...mine look a little leggy compared to yours. I will definitely cut them back later. Thanks!
