I've had this thing for almost 4 years....still no bloom.I gave it a 3 gallon pot 3 years ago& the small wood trellis...which it engulfed.I gave it a piece of bamboo last year& its engulfed it too.Its awkward to move due to its 'shape'(If you can call it that)

I'll get a PH reading on it this morning before I mist it.I've decided to pay more attention to it for a change. It like to do something to this mess.Any HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a hoya that has never bloomed, either.

I need to start taking better care of my houseplants...I have so many of them they've just been allowed to run wild lately...no real supervision.

The leaves look like the one I had that Lynn now has, H. Publicalyx cv 'pink-silver.' It grew to be a beautiful monster with multiple floor to ceiling vines, never bloomed in the years I had it, is said to be 'shy to bloom' on some hoya site I found, and pictures of its flowers are beautiful. Good luck getting yours to flower!

Floor to ceiling huh.I can see explaining WHY I need a cage on wall to grow a plant. nutz But Maybe if it ever bloomed the smell MIGHT knock my socks off.Its possible that it was a cutting when I recieved it .
So ya got pictures of it in that hanger? And how LONG was your hanger.I moved it again today.

Njoynit I have a couple of hoya's neither one of them have grown large but they always have bloom spurs on them and bloom frequently alternating between the two,, I cut some off and sent some pieces of the varigated one to a member here and after about 2 months it went on a blooming surge I was soo susprised but certainly not complaining!!

I don't have a pic showing the whole length of it, here's what I've got. I had the pot on the floor, a hook in the ceiling, and braided string coming down that I stuck unbent paperclips through to hook up the vines. At the top they just twined around the string and reached out along the ceiling for several feet. Sorry about the sideways pic. The dog is Tallah, the cat is Ngaio.

I have a good macrame hanger...but would need to remove the pothos growing in it.(I could actually trade their pots too...houseing exchange...lol) The dogs look right at home. When did yours bloom?

I'm multi-tasking right now,so when I slow up a bit I'll load my other 2 hoyas.there both still small but the one I grew in different light this year and it was happy.

My hoyas are the ones that seem to thrive on neglect. I don't fertilize them and only water once a week, if then. They haven't bloomed yet, but they are covered with bloom spurs. They do seem to thrive on being trimmed too, so maybe that's the real key to getting them to bloom.

I have a hoya just like angelblossom's picture above. I got it by taking a cutting from my Mom's plant, which I saw bloom in May of 1993 - around the time of my high school graduation. Mine has never bloomed, and I don't think my Mom's has either since then. The only thing I can think of that might have caused it to bloom was that we opened the window it was hanging next to a lot that spring when the temp was probably about 40 - 60 degrees outside. Maybe that's the key?

WOW Margaret! I had no idea your plant was so thick and long before. I had cut it back a bit before I brought it inside in the fall - there were numerous slugs on it then. It seems to like being by my basement sliding doors now. I'll keep you posted on its progress.

I hope you took some cuttings before generously passing it on to me? If not, I can send you some once you get settled in Arizona if you like.

so those thinggys on the ends are bloom spurs?well they sure don't do much.I did have it on porch in cold GH,but brought it indoors to the laundry room so can hang with grow light some.It still stays cool in there unless run dryer with door shut.

Its a shame I don't live in a frost free zone.I could just plant in a windowbox with some epi's.

Frost free; what a concept. I wish. (Global warming plus?)

ok....I have had a few things show up on the stems pokeing out...the tips.they look like 'spurs'?I'm pretty sure its not a leaf....................

No Its not been potted for transfer yet.I have also had the vine form roots and grow into the bamboo.I guess it really liked its move to brugland. The geko moved into the hoya too.I find him there daily.........He don't like mist.

Its a 3 stack of frogs.a bank actually(shh)had another barely seen that was a frog sitting on lilly pad that said welcome.3 mini AV some jew vine& wintered my long dead red passion vine.I think was some pothos too.The baby tarro grew fast and left soon.also some spider plant babies& we're some wild violets added later about this time of year actually.
I actually have a 44 gallon hex tank in laundry room..........empty.I've been eyeballing it too(No not to fold clothes on)

Njoynit This is what the spurs look like on my hoya's
Starts like this....

Then turn to this...
[Linked Image]

then blooms
[Linked Image]

After it blooms you never want to cut off the spent bloom or disturb the spur as this is where it will bloom again.

I couldn't tell by your pictures if you had a spur It kinda looked like new leaves starting.
Duh

Well .....I wonder how much soil they actually need.I can make it pot bound.....................

Guess I'll check my calendar signs........says good for today& tomorrow.but will then have to HANG and will have to go back out on porch.Maybe I'll go dig up another heavy duty hook.I might still have that fushia painted pot.Its an 6-8 inch pot.I'll have to look.

so does it normally bloom in April for you?
You could always come fishing when it bloomed.....and bring it with you?.......just a thought.

I have a hoya too . It is a monster of a plant . I have had it for 12 years now and it has bloomed a few times . It thrives on neglect and I just water it once a week or so . I have chicken wire tacked up on the window it is growing on to keep it a little more contained . It has taken over the windows there in my room . I have shoots running all over from it . The boys hate to have to move the thing because it is so heavy and large . I can't blame them . When I got the plant it had no leaves on it , just twiggy looking vines and it has a ton of leaves now and lots of new growth . I love the flowers on this thing , they almost look fake . They are little clusters of pink flowers . Seems like mine blooms more when it is warmer , the warmer it gets the more it blooms , so I keep the room closed off so it gets warm in spring and summer and no air conditioning air gets in there to it .

I'm thinking of leaveing it in this spot permenately. Is a beam it can grow across the room on.

njoyit, I just looked at the album of your brugs . They are georgeous . I have just one that I have started this year . You sure have a ton of cuttings WOW , do you take cuttings off every year and trade ? or do you keep them and grow more for yourself ? They really are georgeous . Keep up the good work .
