I had posted this topic a while back My first bin/pile I started it and then we decided we were buying another house so I just "forgot" about it because I wasn't sure if/how to move the compost and it was very small anyway. Well, I went out Saturday and looked and what did I see?? Duh Usable compost!!!! thumbup I kept telling Summer "Look what we made....We made dirt, Summer!" She just looked at me like I was crazy, but...eventually she will get the picture! laugh

Way to go Tonya! It is quite a feeling of satisfaction isn't it? I was the same way the first time I used my "black gold"

I just can't wait to build my new bins! I convinced Doug that we need 3 bins(one to fill, one to turn, and one to use thumbup ) at the new house! laugh laugh

I used my first bag of compost at the weekend too!!!! Only mine didn't get sieved, so is quite lumpy still, but I used at as a mulch for my apple and pear tree, so wasn't too bothered. Hoping to get a sieve of ebay soon, so should be able to get something more useable out of my bags :-)

congrats on using your black gold. It is a great feeling. And so much cheaper than having to buy stuff from the store.

Did someone say COMPOST??????

Congrat's Tonya..
I am estatic for you..
I love that stuff and there isn't anything finer..

I would eventually invest in some type of
sifter for yourself..
And if Doug's handy, I'll bet he could make one for you..
Either do a square or rectangle **I preferr the rectangle~gives you more sifting space** and buy some 1/2" heavy duty screening..
I think you'll be happier with a bigger one...

Way to go . Keep up the good work . I just love my compost , it makes my plants look so good and do so much better . My neighbors ask me why my plants do so much better than theirs when we buy and plant at the same time from the same place . I tell them STOP USING STORE BOUGHT FERTILIZERS and synthetic stuff . Use all natural compost and organic stuff .

WOW!!!! I used some bags of compost that I had 'cooking' in the garage all winter long. I'd pretty much given up on them, thinking they were not going to amount to much, but as soon as i poured it on top of my vegetable bed, I was amazed!

It had gone black, and was lovely and friable. Mixed it in, and soil looking much better wink

Still need to get a sifter, but happy that it has worked wink wink

Isn't that THE BEST LOOKIN' STUFF????????
Oh, I get giddy when I see mine..

And then all that work I do of saving stuff, loading stuff, turning stuff...just melts away
and there's this black gold left over..
