I got a greenhouse for my birthday last fall. After much research, I decided the best bang for my buck was to order the 10x12 greenhouse kit from harbor freight, and then put about $100 worth of upgrades into it to make it a more wind-proof and sealed greenhouse.

So far I am really happy with my choice!

Very nice Sarah. It is built right on the pea gravel or is there a concrete foundation under all that? And how do you have it anchored to the ground?

Each side is anchored to 4x4 treated wood, then all the pea gravel was placed.

No concrete, I want something that can drain quickly, and I've heard that by using pea gravel you can dramitically increase the humidity by watering down the gravel.

Makes sense. And if you have 4 inches of pea gravel in there, you have a great drainage system built right in. Looks awesome! I cannot see your 4x4s at all in the pics.

That was a lot of gravel to move. :p So far it's working out great, though...I'd do it again.

I'm hoping to get some beds built for it in the next week, then set up some shelves over the beds to hold the trays of seedlings until they can go outside.

Sounds like a plan! Are the beds you put in going to have a bottom so that the dirt is not sitting right on the gravel or are you going to bury them a bit into the gravel with the dirt right on top?

I am still working building or buying a full size greenhouse.

Is yours what they would call a cold frame Pat?

I might just have space for something like that. Looks like that is all above ground. Which direction is it facing and would something like that work on the East side of a house? Or is that going to be too much shade?

It is built like a cold frame, but it has heat in it.
I have it facing south. I biult it from material left over from a house I tore down. It works good, but I still a full sized Greenhouse so I can grow container citrus, and a Banana tree.

second is in....the shelves are made from a bi-fold closet door i found in the dumpster. i just covered it with the same plastic we make the greenhouse with every year. the whole thing knocks down to a 2' x 2' x 10' pile of supplies on a shelf in the garage. its really too hot here in the summer to leave a greenhouse up where we put this one on the south side of the house. it is connected by the kitchen window and the laundryroom door and encapsulates the hydrant for the backyard....mighty handy that! and the warm air circulates into the house through the kitchen window.

WOW, I'd love a greenhouse attached like that. Fresh veggies all winter long!

I have considered a 'lean to' style but don't have a place for it.
