Hi,
Well, after Meg led me to knowing one of my favorite flowers in my yard, I just had to know how to get more! It seems, it is not that simple, but it can be done. Here in some info I found.
>Is it possible to propagate Alstroemeria from the bottom of stems from cut
>flower bouquets?
Sorry, no; you can propagate them only from seed or from portions of the
root with growing points. The flower stems are annual and will not produce
roots. The cutflower strains of Alstroemeria may be available as potted plants in
spring at some garden centers.

When I first attempted propagating alstroemeria some years ago
I tried using every kind of tissue offered; rhizome pieces, the tips
and those containing axillary buds, were the only ones that continued
growing and reproduced the entire plant.
