Cool, thanks thorny...I'm glad to see someone using the birdhouse. we just got this for christmas and knew we wanted residents asap....lol my husband's uncle built the birdhouse and did a great job........he's pushing 79 years old but is still a witty and intelligent guy.
Will they stay around the rest of the season?? I should read up on them......
They will stay as long as the house is up an produce SEVERAL batches of babies EACH Summer until you and your neighbors have hundreds or thousands of them. I started out with 5 four years ago. I now have 100-200 year round. By the end of this Summer that will probably jump to 1,000. They are NOT native to the New World but were imported to New York City from Europe in the mid-Nineteenth Century. They have NO natural enemies or diseases here, and because of that their population has EXPLODED! much to the ruin of many Native Bird species. I think they are rather cute so I tolerate them. There are too many here now to EVER get rid of them and eventually Nature will come up with something to reduce their numbers and control them. They are already disappearing from Europe and Great Britain.
