Just wanted to let everyone know that if you're looking for a particular flower, etc. that attracts humming birds Jasmine are absolutely wonderful. Not only do they attract humming birds from time to time (not often where I live because we really don't see them often in this state, I think, or at least the area where I live anyway) but they also smell amazing. There is some planted in our backyard, which grows up the columns on our patio, and when the flowers are in bloom during their time of year all you have to do is step onto the patio some what near them and it's like a light scent of perfume in the air. A good scent, of course, lol.

I have heard that hysops attract hummers too . Last year I noticed that they were attracted to my petunias and the crepe myrtle was a big attraction for them too . I love hummers and butterflies . I am planting a couple butterfly bushes this year . I have started to plant whatever I can get my hands on now that will make my yard attractive to birds , butterflies and hummers .

I have four crepe myrtles in my yard; one pink and three white. The Hummers like the pink one.

For me, the plant that attracted the most hummers is the lavendar penta flower.
Thorny, that's the flower that had the one hummer sitting on my patio table for a long time-when I thought it looked like a little penguin.

Deborah, isn't the Penta flower also called "Egyptian Starflower"? When I worked at the Garden Center I think we sold them as annuals, :rolleyes: but I thought they were pretty expensive for an annual. Do you know if they are annuals?

I plant 2 red pentas every year and yes they are annuals--and yes not cheap, at least not at the places I shop--but they are so pretty I let it go and buy them anyway---but I may have to try the lavendar pentas this year--The more hummingbirds the better I say!!
