Wow, are we ever gonna pay big bucks for avocados and citrus this year.
Our growers here are devastated by the effects of the cold weather on our groves.
I wonder how Art's avocados are doing?
I know I was amazed to see the old style avocado's in the store for 10 for a 1.00. It was amazing. Needless to say I got several lol. But the price had already doubled on the clementine oranges.
TK, what's an "old style" avocado?
Do you mean a Hass, the blackish pebbly one?
The Hass is my favorite.
yep the black pebbly one. It would actually get soft when it was ripe. They are so much easier to choose.
All avocados but the Hass seem bland and "thin tasting" to me.
If I ever get an avocado tree, it'll definitely be a Hass.
Just curious, TK, why do you call the Hass "old style"?
Deborah
i believe i was one of the lucky ones. all of my avocados are doing fine.the panickles are growing on all of them.i did lose one of my grafts, but i sort of expected it.i also lost my one and only mango tree.
deborah your talking of getting a hass. did you know that the gwen, which are the ones that i have, are hass grafts? i believe they are just as tasty.
Hi Art-good to see you.
I'm glad your trees are doing well.
Do you bag them against frost?
I still haven't purchased my tree.
Hi Deborah,
we only had 2 days below freezing here. one nite was 29 the following nite was 28 and all of my trees survived, with the exception of my mango, which im not sure of yet.altogether i have 5 naval oranges 3 valencia oranges 1 lime 1 lemon 2 tangerine 6 loquot
4 apricot 3 peach 3 avocado 5 fig 1 plum and my hopeful mango.and 9 assorted grafts.i didn't cover any of them, but i did water them the day before.
maybe thats what saved them.
by the way one of my gwen grafts still has about 7 avocados from last feb.i'll wait 3or 4 more months before i pick them.
i hope you get yours soon.just think, you could be enjoying avocados by now.
