Meg is in my old stomping grounds.

I used to carry my fieldguides with me hiking & camping. I wanted to know everything; edible, poisonous, medicinal, etc.

By the time I moved away, I could readily ID about 85% of wild plants w/o a book & 99% with a book.

So, I am always quick with Meg.

California is tougher. I am learning the landscape plants, but not the wild, as much. I could walk out into the forest from my back porch in WV. In Cali, I need to drive for an hour.

Rugby, I think it's great that you know my area so well. I'm so new to all of this, and I want to learn it all. I wish that I could *remember* everything I'm told.. but sometimes, I can't, mostly if they are "complicated" names. But if it's got a more common name, like white sweetclover.. that'll stick with me. And johnsongrass (if that's what the grassy one is), I could remember that. I love my wildflowers that I planted, and am so greatful everyone's been able to help me id them. I don't know if I'm gonna remember them all. I know, there's at least 1 I'm sure, that I forgot the name of already!

Repetition is the key.

That is one of the reasons I like to play ID so much. It helps me to remember the plants that I knew but don't get to see anymore.

And, when others ID something, I try to learn what it was.

My weakest point is garden flowers, because there are soooooo many. I am much better with trees & shrubs & wildflowers.

latin names of them to keep my brain active..
Only I could never find much on a
"VERBAL PRONOUNCING GUIDE" that would be on the
internet, so I could hear how to really
prounce words

I have learned that there is no definitive pronunciation rules.

I like to use botanary .

But I don't always agree with their pronunciation.

For example: Cercis 'redbud'

They say "sersis". But they, also, show the word origin from the Greek "kerkis".

I pronounce it kerkis. I like to go with the original way, not the "accepted-because-so-many-people-say-it-wrong" way.
