Does anyone have first hand knowledge on planting, care, etc of tree peonies?
I have been reading, looking and dreaming. Finally ordered one. It has not arrived yet. Any advise would be helpful and appreciated.
They'll grow in just about any soil as long as it’s not waterlogged; slightly acidic or neutral soil is best. When you plant them, it's helpful to put a handful of bonemeal in the planting hole.
Tree peonies revel in climates with cold, snowy winters and are hardy to Zone 3. You can leave them out in the open without protection, but mulch any that are not deeply planted.
The biggest mistakes you can make when growing peonies are over-watering and/or over-fertilizing -- they're tough little plants and don’t need to be coddled.
Hope that helps,
Frann
Tree peonies like morning sun, but afternoon shade. Pinch off the seed heads after the flower petals drop.
