the weather was sooooooo warm for so long that i cleaned around my pond and took some pics.
[Linked Image]

since it was nearly 80 degrees, i figured the fish might be hungry, but they weren't. so the flakes you see floating on top are fish food shocked
[Linked Image]

the fish weren't really interested in getting their pictures taken, so they stayed under the waterfall

although, the 3 biggest ones decided to stay still for a second
[Linked Image]

these three were the most cooperative, and left the falls for a few seconds
[Linked Image]

and the water drops mid-air were pretty cool. i didn't even notice that until i was resizing the pictures.

the briar leaves (they are blackberry brambles) look like a hat on his head! i need to pull them out, but they are soooooo prickly, i'd rather pull on a cactus! shk

Yep, they are cool, especially the ripples. Water stopped in time is always neat to look at! I want a pond soooo bad!

loved your pics jiffy! bet your fish were happy to get some nice clean water! im almost scared to see what the water looks like in my pond! i love when its so clean and you can see all the stuff in it.. like your fish swimming around your plants,

so you clean your pond with the fish still in it?

Terrific pictures, Jiffy!

So tell us... how big is your pond?
How many fish do you have in there?
They look pretty big - how long have you had them?
Does it ever freeze over in winter there?

around 30 gallons. it is a half barrel with two smaller containers that spill into it.

right now there are 4 fish. one is from the first year (over 2 years ago) and the others have been added over the last 2 years. i usually add half a dozen "feeder" (28 cent) gold fish at the time, and what ever lives stays. i've never had mine breed like cindy does laugh

winter freeze isn't something i have had to worry about. between the pump going continously and us not having very many days of heavy frost, i've been good.

if we were to get some days in the teens, i'd just toss some plastic over it and it'd still be good thumbup

someone else asked about the clear water, and about cleaning it.

i only clean the pond about twice a year. right now, the water is so clear because i have duckweed, water lettuce, and water hyacinth totally covering the top of the water. i moved it all so i could take stock and take pics. it's back now.

i also try to change the filter on the pump about once a month.

Looks great, Jiffy!

We finally got clear water by building and installing the Adam's Filter that a lot of people were talking about. We are cleaning it once a month. That thing is amazing. We can see the bottom of the puddle now...

I did and that is what we have, it stops up our power head that we have pumping water to the waterfall every other day. sigh I am getting some Floating plants this next week if I can find them.
Thank you for your help.

if you can't find floaters, buy some pool floats or something to cover the top of the pond. it will cut the algae considerably. also, i have my pump with a foam filter on it, and i change the filter out (i reuse them, i have a couple) just slide the clogged on off, and a new one on. let the clog dry out, and then spray out with a water hose, cleans the gunk right out.
Posted By: Annell Re: warm weather & my pond {photos} - March 20th, 2007 at 04:04 AM
We have the foam one on our above groud filter powerhead but there is no way that I know of to attach to the power head. I will look again and see.
Hey Pool floats, never thought of that. lol
Tony has some old duck decoys that someone gave him, I may drop a few ducks in the pond. I can see it now, we will get up one morning and a whole flock of ducks will be in our pond.lol
Thanks again for the ideas.
