Naked Lady/Surprise Lilly? - May 14th, 2006 at 06:43 AM
When my daughter brought me a big tub of bulbed plants early this spring, & I thought they were all Daffodils. I moved them to a garden bed where the Daffodils bloomed & are long-gone now. Yesterday I noticed this:
We recently had the hedge clipped (as evidenced by the leaf mess among these plants), so I don't know if this flower stalk had been standing up but had gotten trampled, or not... I don't think it normally lays on the ground like this.
A friend was recently telling me about a weird looking Lilly that she has, that sends up a tall shoot of flowers & look kind of goofy standing there all alone, before the leaves get going... & when the flower is gone, the leaves start growing & stay for a long time. She called it a "Naked Lady Lilly". Another friend told me that they're also called "Surprise Lilly". Is that what this is?
