Hi there, I know that it is already December...but I had resolved my problem but now I have stumbled across it again. My problem is this, To cover, or not to cover strawberries. I have read where it says, cover! and other places it says, ahh you don't have to. So my question is, Should I cover my strawberries, and if so Is it ok to do it now? Or have my strawberries already been hurt. I also read about cutting them off to the crowns. This is my first attempt at growing strawberries, so I will appreciate any help/answers given. I, personally, do nothing at all to my strawberries come winter.. Mine are grown in Coffee Pots, and, come winter, I just move the pots into a location away from the 'elements'-- into a corner or somewhere where they will not knock over during the winter. they come back just fine for me come springtime.
I just leave them be... no cutting, or anything...

..but that's just me; see what other people do as well

Yep, I do absolutely nothing to mine either....
They are almost like weeds here now..

The first year I had bought mine in a 6 pk,
I never even planted mine, didn't find a space for them and they over wintered in the 6 pk outside on top of soil...

The best advice I can give you is to remember when you plant them yourself, not to plant them too deep.. half in and half out of the dirt so to speak... *they'll survive if you plant them more out of the soil, then in completely in the soil..

And the first 3 years you have your strawberries, you're better off snipping any runner/baby off the plant.. your momma plant will be healthier and root and fruit better..

Then after that, it's better to let them run runner roots/plants.. *and watch how they attach themselves to the ground, it'll help you emensely how they grow*

And watch weeds....

I have some strawberries growing "wild" at the new house....not sure if they are actually "wild" ones or tame ones gone wild.....but they sure tasted great! I sampled one earlier in the year when I was out there daydreaming!

the "wild" berries are smaller
than the hybridized kind...
but the taste is just as sweet...
