Thorny had this in a butterfly photo, and id'd it as pokeberries. Thought so!

Poke! Guess what - yep, I have that too Butterflies seem to like it, and it gets berries that feed the birds in fall/winter I believe...so I let a few hang around in the back.

poke salad, you can eat the leaves like greens but that's got too tall already, it'd be tough now when cooked

You should only cook and eat the very young shoots of this plant, every part is poisonous.

And you have to cook the young one's *leaves*
twice, boil, then dump the water, then refill
and re~boil again!!!!!

cut up and bread the stems and fry like okra is real good.
