She can tell you more about it.

It's some type of magnolia. If it is blooming now, it may be one of "The Little Girl Hybrids" as they were bred to bloom later than the saucer magnolia, thus avoiding the spring frosts. I think though, that they bloom in late spring, with sporadic bloom in summer. There are 8 different varieties all with girl's names.

I think it is called a tulip tree. That is what my mother always called it.

The tulip tree has very unique leaves with yellow flowers.

Latin names are mind boggling, but common names can be confusing, too.

I've heard Bestofour's tree called a "Tulip Magnolia",
and I've heard the one netwiz posted called a "Tulip Poplar".
They both grow in my area.
