I don't have this flower, but I see it everywhere blooming right now, and I want one. It looks like a lily, pale pink and it looks like it's got a dowel rod for a stem. The stem is straight and brown with no leaves on it, then this pretty flower is at the top.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Could it be a Rain Lily? They come in various colors and pop up after a good rain.

Nope...I just Googled that.

The one I'm talking about has no foliage at the bottom...just looks like a skinny brown dowel rod about a foot or maybe a little more tall, with a pink lily looking flower on top.

I'm gonna have to drive down the road and take a picture of one in a little while. There's some in a yard, but the people are never home.

I don't know what the real name is but people here call them naked ladies. I think in the spring the foliage comes out but they bloom in the summer and you don't see the foliage.

I think the one she is talking about might be Lycoris squamigera. They are called magic lilies, surprise lilies and naked ladies.

Naked ladies =
Naked Ladies
(Amaryllis belladonna)

These beautiful flowers grow out of bare, parched ground during September in San Diego County. They arise from deep-seated bulbs, long after the leaves from the previous spring have withered away. Scroll down to the next paragraph to read about this curious name for a plant.

You know I've always wondered what these were too! I see them in yards all the time and thought what a curious looking flower..no leaves..just straight up then the big flower at the top.
Now I need to find some bulbs! lol
