Help!!! It's dropping it's leaves what should I do?

My choc mint dies back every year for a bit no matter where I have it. It could just be going dormant. Is this an established plant or a seedling or what?

it was a cutting a few months ago but it has really grown so it's a plant but not a big plant. I was thinking about maybe cutting it back which was when I noticed that the leaves were turning black and falling off. If it's dormant is this a good time to cut it back?

Yes. I just mowed mine back when dormant.

At this point if the plant seems well anchored in the soil, leave it be. Your light condition could have been enough to support the cutting getting established and growing to this point, but now that light is not enough to support a plant. When lighting requirements are not met a plant drops most of its leaves and concentrates energy on keeping the root system alive.

Well I cut it back. I've never had a problem with that window not providing enough light. It's east facing and I'm in zone 7a. But maybe the temps in the teens and it being a single pane window did something to it.

I did see that there was a fair amount of little tiny new growth at the left junctions. So many the new growth pushed out the old leaves?

You can tell I don't know much about this subject.
