I came across this clump after the hurricane.I been watching it& dug some of it up.I've NO IDEA what it is.It has very long foliage.no smell.I'd say from the tree that fell on it it was growing in partial sun& may have got some water from the pond unless water was low.
from the rhyzome, i'd say it's some kind of iris. the leaves don't look quite like my bearded iris leaves, tho.
the leaves look more like some kind of daylily - they have a bulb, not a rhyzome, tho.
you should plant it...you probably won't get blooms this year and it may look pretty wilted for the season...next year it'll come back nice and strong, tho!
maybe some kind of daffodil?
I had thought of crinuim or amaryllis cause of the bulb size but the foliage didn't fit.I had thought some kind of daylilly till I dug it.You don't see the other larger bulb cause is on the bottom.those you see are off sets that surround it.the other bulb was 9 in across.I've since this pic planted them.I left the clump intact, but removed the large bulb and planted in other bed.
The foliage is not stiff like my iris& is a bulb with roots no rizome. The foliage is similar in texture wise to my leeks, but a lil thinner.no smell to foliage or bulb.that there clump you see weighs 10 lbs 7 oz.I was some site walking back with that.....I had a banana plant in tow also& a 5 gallon bucket& my shovel.(my neighbors already KNOW I'm nutz)
that would have been a great pic!!!
wow! a 10 pound bulb ?!?!?!?! then it's not iris or lily...
amarylis might be it...i've never had them - i know their bulbs are large tho. i guess they'd get to 10 lbs if you leave them grow long enough tho.
there is a kind of lily that grows around here, with that type of foliage, shoots up lots of little flowers from the bulb instead of one or two big ones. they are im bloom starting in march for one variety and i saw some in bloom today.
that sounds like a lily of the valley, jiffy...
my neighbor just gave me some of them and the bulbs are not that large.
this foliage is very long.Guess I'll get all comfy and sit awhile& watch..lol
The leaves look like a type of Crinum to me. I've got 2 varieties and the leaves look like that. Their bulbs get HUGE...I've had them weigh 5-10lbs.
I took some to Ky for Nessa and Cindy.
Are you sure it isnt Garlic ?
lots of foilage and bulb srea on those?/
