We saw this while riding on the mountain trail this weekend.. I noticed the neat looking leaves, then further up the tree, this feathery looking flower. What is this?

They're great to look at - there are a bunch in my town - but I don't want any in my yard (not in MY backyard!) They're very invasive...and 'very' is putting it very mildly

Wow, really mary? I had no idea. Guess I won't be looking into those trees then! LOL. I have a small enough yard as it is. But it was pretty neat lookin.

I have never known them to be invasive in WV. My parents had one in our yard for 20 years with a 30' canopy. We only ever got, maybe, 6 volunteers.

Relocating seedlings is well worth the exchange for the beauty & the scent.

Rubgy come on down they are all over my weed patch and they are impossible to get rid of. They do the root thing and those roots are tough. They are all over this part of Virginia now and are easing out our native trees. The only thing that will kill them when they are small is a good long hard freeze. But once they get mature even that won't stop them.

Wow !! Maybe the reason we never had problems is that ours was a lawn tree. All of the pods got shredded by the mower. Don't know.

But, they are 1 of my faves.

Yeah the landlord mows them down constantly. He missed some this spring though and now they are hardwood several inches round so he's going to have to do some chopping if he wants to get it down in size.

here they grow pretty good and multiply easy, but if you keep the yard mowed good they don't spread too bad

My aunt has a mimosa in her yard. It is a very beautiful tree. I tried to plant one here, but I didn't have any luck with it. I am planning on trying again, though.
