So. I bought this little house and as soon as i did the garden/side yard started sprouting these ridiculous tubers. Now theres hundreds of them.

So I have a multi part question for you guys, what the heck are they, how can I eliminate them, and is it possible to do without literally digging up my entire side yard?

 Urgh!! Stachys floridana "Florida Betony" , the bane of my existence.
I hope you have better luck getting rid of it than I'm having.

You're so right, the stuff is just awful!!

There is some pretty good info about how to fight it
at the link in my previous post.

We have centipedegrass, so in the lawn area, we've used Atrizine,
which was recommended by several local nurserymen.
It works pretty well, but even after several applications,
the Betony is still not all gone. frown

We can't use an herbicide in the flower beds though,
so I am constantly digging and pulling by hand. Duh (I hope, I hope, I hope!)

If you dig the tubers up, whatever you do, DO NOT put them into your compost.
I tie them up in garbage bags and put them out with the garbage.

The good news is (???) that Betony will go dormant when the weather heats up . . .
. . . but it will be back. dev

It's a grueling job. eek
