I just found this site that helps you identify over 1,000 species of birds in the U.S. and Canada. It is a step-by-step ONLINE field guide that can have you identifying your unknown birds in minutes. It also has a store where you can get some really GREAT stuff for your bird garden. I am interested in their solar-powered bird bath fountain pump that pumps 40 gallons per hour and costs only $65.00 USD! Splashing gurgling water in a fountain, pond, or birdbath will attract many insect eating species that would NEVER come to ANY of your birdfeeders, so a NOISY, wet, water feature is essential to attracting the maximum number of DIFFERENT bird species to your yard or garden. Here is a link to their site.

Those are probably Common Grackles. They have beautiful irridescent colors. Here is one I took sitting on my porch rail. This is a male. The males are the pretty ones.

In the summer I have a half dozen or so that come to my feeders. I've watched them mate in my yard before.

Anyway, what do I need a stinking online guide for when I already have one -- you.

P.S. Could some please tell me what " muggs " means?

That means, "High Five" or, "Right-On", for us Old-Schoolers.

Thornius,
Thanks for the neat site! I bookmarked it too. I do all I can to attract birds to my yard--love to watch them. And they really pay me back by helping keep the insects down in my garden.

If it's the insects ye'll wanna be gettin rid of, the birds that came to seed feeders won't be able to help ye. Ye'll be wantin' to put up suet feeders and baths and fountains that splash and gurgle to attract the INSECT eatin' birds.
