i got an elephant bush stem cutting from a friend about 2 months ago. she had cut it from the beginning of last summer and grew it then gave it to me after it had rooted and grown a couple inches. ever since she gave me the cutting, it has done nothing but wilt and lose leaves every 1-2wks. in the picture you can see the one of the top leaves is starting to wilt and about to fall off.

ive been following my friend's instructions by not giving it much water and full sunlight. ive only been watering it about once a week and leaving it intfront of a bright window. what could i be doing wrong? is it going to die? frown

I'm not familiar with this plant and I am sure someone will be along that does. But I would say it is not getting enough light/sun. Also some plants go through a period of doing things like leaf drop etc when moved to a different climate then they are use to....It may just need to get use to your climate in your house???? Is it cold where you are sitting it to get sun, like maybe a draft from a window?

I think elephant bush is a kind of portulaca. It needs very little water and LOTS of sun. I think your is probably being overwatered.

hmm, i think you are right. it is probably just getting adjusted to the climate of my house. the very top where the new leaves are forming, now ive taken a closer look, they do seem like they are growing larger. i'm guessing my house may not have enough sunlight and/or i'm watering slightly too much. i will reduce the watering and leave it alone for awhile and see how it goes. then when summer comes, i will try to move it to a brighter spot.

These plants lose a ton of leaves when their environment is changed. The good news is that once they get adjusted they grow like crazy.

Like everyone else said, give it as much sun as possible. Water it when the leaves start to wilt a little.

It's a cute little cutting! wink
