I have a dendrobium that was in bloom when I purchased it. Since then, it has been well, and a few months ago new growth started.

That new growth has turned into a nearly mature kane, and it seems that it's the point where it might start blooming.

It lives in an office with good lighting conditions and I water/feed it about every 7 days with water soluble 19-31-17 orchid food.

Do I need to do anything special to get it to bloom (some sites suggest dropping the temperature, others suggest that it will bloom when it is fully mature).

Also I have this odd problem(?) with the leaves coming off. Instead of wilting and coming off, they seem to get "popped" off by the growth of the plant. They slip up the kane by about 1/4", then (not being connected to the plant any longer), wilt and die. Is this normal?

Give it BRIGHT light, morning or late afternoon sun is fine also. Let it dry out between waterings and feed every other watering with half strength miracle grow or 10-10-10, 20-20-20 fertilizer.

It may not bloom again until next fall or winter.

Mine have been in bloom for about 2 months now!

Tom
